what are those downstream "CRC" errors? why do i seem to have such a high figure here ?

They are errors on your DSL line. Can be anything from a faulty line to a faulty splitter.

Damning Telskum wont help mate, it's called a best of effort service for a reason and is pretty standard all over the world. The caps and maximum speed we have are obviously crap but if you really look into services in other countries we're not doing too badly.

Only thing I have a problem with in SA and it's ADSL is the ****ing slow Telkom call center which you can get around by ordering your line through a 3rd party and the caps. Apart from that I'm generally pretty happy. Have been for 5 years on ADSL.

Also check speedtest.neotel.co.za to check local-only speeds. You should max out your line on this one.

Your problem IS THE ACTUAL DSLAM (That is the Telkom box on a corner somewhere near your home) Telkom have 2 kinds of ADSL equipment housed in those green and blue boxes. They both sync at 4096, but only one gives you the full speed. The max you will get on the other is 1600. trust me, I went down this road on my line. I finally got my port switched to a different port on a different DSLAM (in the same box) and vooila, 4MB's. The next time you see a Telkom techie in your area, ask him about this. I think the DSLAM you need to be on is manufactured by Grintek.......
