The research doesn't necessarily agree: the pre-release rips help generate hype.

That was my thought.

I read an interesting article about this leak. They are claiming that if this movie does not fare well on its opening week, they may well blame poor performance on this leak. Whatever that may mean for them.

But, to the flip side of the coin, if this movie makes their targets over opening week, it may well prove that piracy may in fact not play a big role for the entertainment industry. Seeing to it that 189,000 copies have been downloaded in the last 24 hours.

Also, if they fare better than their targets for opening week, pre-releasing a screener into the piracy domain may well be an option for future releases.

I don't often go the cinema and if I do I won't watch something like the Expendables.

So it wouldn't make a difference to anyone if I watch it online ... which I did this morning.
