Expert opinion needed

I am an expert and my answer is a big no. If you want to bankrupt yourself this is the perfect car to assist you with that. For that budget you need to look at smaller cars from brands such as KIA, Hyundai, Toyota, Honda. anything japanese/korean.

Would you mind telling me why it would be a cash drain?
It's not very old, but I'm a bit suspicious as to whether the odometer has been tampered with?

Firstly it is an Opel, secondly it is clear that it was not maintained well, has been resprayed and i bet it has been in multiple accidents, Finding spare parts for this car will be difficult but when you do find them they will be expensive, The licence disk expired in 2020 which means the previous owner most probably stopped driving it around then, which begs the question why. Probably because it was breaking down a lot or starting to cost them way too much in maintenance. It was last driven 3 years ago and it is for good reason.

Looking at the dekra report alone I bet you wont be able to drive that vehicle off the show room, You will need a flat bed to get it back home. To get it roadworthy again you will need to fix these thing: Shocks, oil leak, Lights, Windscreen. and these are things that have been listed, there is a lot more that hasnt been listed on the report. How much on top of the vehicle cost price do you think it will cost you to fix all these issues? Not less than R20k i bet. So your R70k budget is now R100k if not a lot more.

Yes, you are absolutely correct regarding the fact that I would need to budget for defects not mentioned in the Dekra report. I purchased a few cars from We Buy Cars and interestingly all of them had a few defects which weren't mentioned in the Dekra

Well I am an expert after all. If you have a budget for these extra costs then you are better off increasing your budget to R100/R120K and you can get yourself something nice with no extra hidden costs. But if you cant increase your budget then look at Japanese.

Do you perhaps have any suggestions for R100k?

No BMW 320d?

Not an expert, but a middle age ballie, so an expert on grey and thinning hair.

If you know nothing about cars there is two options:

1. Buy a cheap car. It will be unreliable, and you will become an expert whether you want or not. Since I am not mechanically inclined, I tend to block those memories, but it included removing engine from car and rebuilding it, luckily I had friends who think this is a fun way of spending their time. It then becomes expensive.

2. Buy from a reputable dealer, to save some money, I will buy a toyota from VW dealer and visa versa, it is always more expensive to buy a VW from VW.

Most franchise dealers does not keep old cars that can't get finance on, on their floors. They send it to auction or WeBuyCars for a reason.

For a R100k you are looking at smaller cars, hyundai i10 auto, Honda Jazz, Kia Picanto, Pre-2018 polo vivo, Honda Jazz, Toyota yaris, Honda jazz, Hyundai i120, Honda jazz, Kia rio, Toyota auris. These will all be cars from 2008- 2015.
I've been searching for a Polo Vivo, Toyota Yaris or Auris but haven't found anything decent yet. Any suggestions as to where I should be looking? I want a low mileage car
