My explora freezes or stutters every 2+ seconds for a microsecond.
This is especially noticeable now with the news channels scroll at the bottom, but the whole image actually stutters.
It happens on any channel.
I don't think its just the image, the sound must too, because the sound is not out of sync with the image.
It would be after a few minutes if that was the case?
Tried cleaning H/D, rebooting, all the standard DIY stuff, but nothing seems to help.
My signal strength is excellent.
It is quite annoying.

If you have and extraview and both decoders are running on a smart lnb it's probably a user band conflict. First reboot both decoders. If that doesn't help, you'll have to check settings to make sure each decoder is using unique user bands.

Thanks, but I don't have extraview

We have this issue too. HDMI cable or analoge same thing

I feel it was a bug with an update at some point in time when converting/pulling 50/60/24 Hz content to the 50Hz output

I had the same issue. Reset on your decoder (Settings -> System Settings -> Reset decoder settings) and it goes away.

You will have to do the setup again but it is worth it.

I have an Explora 2A set up as the secondary decoder in Xtraview and it has the same problem. The fan inside it was making a noise a while ago, but now it has gone quiet. I suspect the hard disk drive may be the problem if the fan was not cooling it properly, but cannot tell.

First I will try Nick333's advice and see whether that makes a difference. Don't exactly know how to check the user bands, but I will search on the decoder till I find it.

I can also try Crowley's option if the above doesn't solve it.

I have tried all of the above. Default to factory settings seems to work at first. But within 2 to 4 hours it is back and systematically gets worse.

Exactly the same on my side.

I am not technically well informed, but I am suspecting that the hard drive is the cause of the stuttering. Someone mentioned a software upgrade could also cause this, but how will one know that?

Mine is still running fine after the reset.

My wife said ours is doing the same. Two weeks ago, had to phone dstv, they let me restart the explora twice.
My wife keep asking me, this stuff is brand new, how can this be.

Had similar problem with the hard drive saying if full and needs to format. Eventually the decoder was stuck blue screen. Called dstv they said it broke. And need to purchase a new decoder. Eventually call a dstv installer who took it to dstv. Initially they said it's dead but luckily he had them reset it
Working 100% just over a month now

I've been getting this as well. I just pull the power cord for a minute or so, and then reconnect.

This is rather odd.

So the question is - which Explora are we all referring to? The first version, or the "lite"version afterwards?

If it was a hardware issue it's usually one of two reasons that caused it.
A sufficient bump to the decoder which mucks up the hard drive, or a simple thing like electricity.

I've had issues with poor power extensions that even caused PCs to have bad power issues.

I suggest testing decoder and tv on one power outlet for a while.
If it's stable, any other device like an amplifier, speakers or games console may be borking something.

I highly doubt a software update would have caused this. Otherwise the complaints would be a flood gate.

It's a common problem with the Explora 2. Software related. Multichoice trying to sort it out, and suppose to release a software upgrade at some stage to sort it out.

If it's a software bug, I wouldn't like to be in their call centre.

Have the same problem. Explora 2A Decoder. Reboot sorts it out for 1 day, but the problem recurs and progressively gets worse.
