Expose SABnzb to the internet

Hi all,

I'm looking to expose my SABnzb to the interwebs, so I can access and manage it while I'm at work.
How would I go about this? Would have put this up in the Networking section but has more to do with TV's so took a shot.

Need to be able to search and add new .nzb's on the fly from work either over the browser or my phone.
Anyone managed to do this? Security issues to be aware of? Was looking to use Comodo firewall and "think" that should be efficient.

Have a Netgear N150 router incase the info is needed.

Any help would be appreciated as it seems my Google-Fu is lacking this afternoon.

Create an account over at www.no-ip.org install the DUCT client on your PC at home, connect to yourname.no-ip.org (whatever you want to call it) and bob's your uncle.
 
VPN into your network, then browse to the SABnzbd page?
 
or tell SAB to look at your dropbox folder, as a blackhole directory.... then just save nzbs to your dropbox at work.
 
I use dynamicdns and port forwarding.... I then have an app on my phone and iPad which connects directly to sabnzb, works perfectly.
 
Either use teamviewer or vpn. Don't just expose SABnzb to the internet, ne'er-do-wells will add their own selection(s) to your list, which you may not want....

In two years there hasn't been one successfully attempt on my network.
 
There's one of two ways to do this.

Either you put SABNZBd on the internet so you can access it remotely, using the like of a Dynamic DNS client either on your Router or the PC running SABNZBd.

Then you'll have an address like something.dyndns.org (or whichever provider you choose) and you would use whatever port SAB is configured on to get to it like in my case something.dyndns.org:8081 for SAB 8082 for Sickbeard and 8083 for Couch Potato.


Alternatively you can keep SAB perfectly save and off the internet and instead have it go look for RSS feeds from your News Provider on a regular basis. So you'll preset the RSS feed in SAB that your News Provider gives you (generally this on VIP subs only) and then you'd visit their site from your phone or browser and simply add your download to the shopping cart and SABNZBd will check it the next time the scheduler runs.


There is a "hybrid" mode as well if you have the DynDNS setup by which you can "send to SABNzbd" from your News Providers if they support the feature. You'd basically give them the API key to your installation and they'll be allowed to edit your Queue directly.

Ever heard of something called a password?

Depending on the Router you could also vastly restrict the allowed ranges of incoming IP addresses to only those that you would ordinarily connect from. Bit more hassle but it's do-able.
 
Alrighty, will give most of this a go this weekend. Looking to expose it as I'll have better control of whats going on in my queue. Especially when I want to pause my Anime downloads to get some Linux distro's.
In the interim, I'm using my SkyDrive folder to get the .nzb's I want downloaded by the time I get home.

As too why I'm not using TeamViewer..Work internet is kinda anal as to what I can and can't access, so I'm looking for a solution I can visit on my phone and use Apps to manage, if that makes sense.

Will give the Hybrid mode a shot aswell, saw Newztown supports this feature.

Routers firewall, and obviously Windows Firewall... SABNZB over SSL with standard username/password and API key. I check my router log once a week and their are very seldom entries of attempts at access.

Hackers arn't really interested in our home PCs, especially considering the only thing they'd be usefull for is doing damage as our internet is so slow.
 
which of these solutions would work on an openelec box that is running sabnzb?
