ext hdd question

so my ext hdd now for some reason asks me which programme i want to use to open it ... why ? i used to just double click the drive and it should open etc buit now it asks me to select a programme .... why is it doing that ? the ext hdd is a verbatim 1T. i havent changed anything on the drive or on my pc.

Probably a virus that your antivirus got rid of, but didn't clear the autorun. Enable viewing hidden folders and system files to check if there's an autorun.inf file. Before you delete, open it in notepad and check what it's trying to open. Then delete it. Sorry for lack of paragraphs. On phone

+1 above. In addition, sometime the virus prevents you from changing the option to view hidden files. If this happens try using Winrar, or some other application that does not use explorer, to view the files....
