I currently have an Standard Bank access bond opened way before they changed how access bonds work in 2008 at a very good interest rate. So currently I have access to the entire bond amount, unlike the newer access bonds that the amount available is reduced per month. This makes it a good "personal loan" facility.

Question: Is it possible to extend the term of the pre-2008 access bond, or would they force the bond to become a "newer" access bond if I want to extend the term.

Just curious, that's all!

When I asked - a couple of years ago - if I could (for example) increase the size of an existing Access Bond I was told that any change would result in the cancellation of the original Access Bond.

We had a bond from 2005, we have extened but the bank has split it into a multi plan. So the origional amount is there + access but the extra is seperate and I assume bound by the newer restrictions.
