I have a 50GB 180 day data bundle I purchased just before lockdown, and haven't had the chance to use much of it.

I decided to see whether I could extend the data bundle, and followed the menu on *109#.

50343.18MB expires on 07/09/2020
Extend by:
1. 1 days R503.50
2. 7 days R503.50
3. 30 days R1007.00
0. Back

WTF @Cell_C ? The bundle only cost R500.

Good day

Thank you for contacting Cell C.

The extension of the bundle depends on the volume of data available and time period for the extension. The rollover service is available from 5 days before the expiry of the 180 day window.

Are those the correct prices then?

I don't understand who in their right mind would pay more for less time to use it.
As a strong proponent of Hanlon's razor, I'd like to give @Cell_C the benefit of the doubt here and assume it's a bug, but let's see what they say.

Love how this question was just simply ignored. And of course the absolute absurdity of there being two USSD code numbers that can be used that I assume give different pricing?

Time to ditch Cell C. This is just ridiculous!

The ICASA regulations were supposed to put a stop to this type of data theft but, as expected, they haven't really helped much.

It's been doing the same calculation for over a year.
Maybe they think people will not do the maths and realise they can buy a new bundle with a longer expiry window for less than the cost of a renewal.

I fear your data will expire before you get any worthwhile feedback from @Cell_C
Yeah, from what I've read in other threads, it will expire at 00:00 on the day of expiry (Monday), so my last chance to use it is on Sunday.

Unless they think like the government, in which case "midnight on Monday" comes at the end of the (Mon)day.

But rather don't try push your luck ...
