hi
can anybody recommend a reliable external blu ray for a mac...
and know where to get it cheaply..
thanks in advance

What sort of support is there for this in Snow Leopard? Do you need to go thru a lot of pain to get it usable?
If ur dealing with 25GB+ storage isn't better to just get a HDD?

Toast supports it. But drives and media is VERY expensive and im still waiting for the 45 gig blank disks

It's cheaper to buy external drives, a Samsung 1 TB drive with external casing is below R1000.

i wanna convert some of my blu rays into mkvs for use with my media player

Roxio Toast ver 8 and up burn BD SL and DL disks natively.
Final Cut Studio 3 burns BD disks.
Adobe Premiere burns BD disks.

There is a free (while in Beta only) Ripper for Bluray for Mac.

You can't officially play back BD movies from BD disks on OSX but
you can do it via Windows and bootcamp or Windows and VirtualBox/Fusion/Parallels.

I bought an external USB Blu-Ray R/W (Panasonic USB 2.0 UJ220B Blu-Ray Burner/Player) on ebay for USD190 (incl. shipping). Can't see why this shouldn't work on an Apple (but then I don't know squat about OS-X). Oh, and you can get it in white.

You should be able to get readers for a lot less.

My drive hasn't arrived yet, will just have to see whether it gets stolen or not, there has been a lot of theft in the SA Post Office lately.

Always check with Slysoft's forum (AnyDVD HD makers) if the model can be region unlocked with their software and is compatible for ripping.
