Sunpak PF30x (R1400)

Metz Mecablitz 36 AF-4 (100$ - no idea what that will cost me as a whole if I import )

What do you guys think?

I am looking at the Metz and Sunpak because they look to have more bang for your buck....

Any advice/opinions would be appreciated.

sb 400, it is okay but there are better flashes out there for the money...with that flash you are mostly paying for the nikon name.

metz is good but it is hard to find them here in s.a.

sunpack? not really sure about that one, i have heard that you can get them here but not sure where.

have you thought about nissin? their flashes aren't bad and you can get them here.

also i know that you can get sigma flashes as well and they seem to be okay flashes.

nikon flashes are amazing but they are also amazingly pricey. i know right now there are two sb 600's or 800's for sale on the outdoorphoto classifieds website so if you don't mind going second hand then check that out.

You could also try out the Sigma flashes. There is a Sigma EF 530 DG ST for R2199, which would be equivalent to the Nikon SB 600(I think). I can't quite make out if the SB-400 can swivel left and right but you may find that might limit you to bouncing your flash off the ceiling in portrait orientation

The Nikon SB600 is only around R2500 so that would be the one to get if the budget allows for it

Thank you very much. I had a look and the 1k flashes look great for student budget :D

Nha I am a student and I am limited to around R1500 for a flash.

I saw these at the link in a prev. post

a) http://www.camerastuff.co.za/shop/c...ashes/yongnuo-digital-speedlite-yn460-ii.html

b) http://www.camerastuff.co.za/shop/c...-flashes/yongnuo-digital-speedlite-yn462.html

+ - R1000 for one of the two.

Anyone here thats use any one of the two?

I just want a nice flash that can swivel but I saw the Nikon brand is pricey so I think I will go for one of the R1000 flashes as linked above :D

It looks a bit too generic for my liking. I'd rather get something with a Nikon TTL module if I was you. MyWorld did some research on third party flashes recently, look for those posts.

I am still searching but not finding anything :(

You're not looking hard enough - just past midway down the 2nd page in this subforum at the mo :p

The flash he chose is a bit outside your price range though, however, AF-assist and TTL make it a no-brainer for me.

Ok well then i take it I will be looking some more but if not I will make due without TTL .

Well except if you feel like sponsoring me a flash or R500 :p:D

Metz Mecablitz 36 AF-4 Digital TTL Flash.

Anyone know if they make those for Nikons?

I can't seem to find any :(

The DF283 is cheaper, but more around the R1300 - I haven't looked at the difference between the two, but either way they look fairly decent

I see mention was made of the flash I recently purchased, and I will add a report to my initial thread, but so summarize, I'm ecstatic with my choice.

I did a wedding last week end and it turned out that this unit packs one heck of a punch for the price.
Battery life was well above expectations and cycle time was never, not even once a problem.

I would really safe up the extra R500-00 and get the Nissin, great value for money.
