Hi,

I'm struggling to get a replacement power adapter for my external hard drive. I need a 12V 1.5A power supply but I can only find Ellies 1A in the normal shops (Game and Checkers).

I bought a power supply from Mantech but the connector doesn't fit. It's a 2.1mm inside diameter but I think it's supposed to be a 2.5mm.

I've looked on:
Mantech,
Rabtron,
Communica,
Current automation

but can't find the right one anywhere. Please tell me if I'm blind.

Can it really be this hard to get this part seeing as external hard drives are widely sold?

Thanks.

As a resort you can remove the drive from its current enclosure and you put it into a new one

Try esquire or if you really desperate then matrix

I have an old box but it was USB 2.0 and this drive is USB 3.0

Try Zakspeed they're guaranteed to have a Replacement adaptor. I know they have a couple stores in Cape Town but no sure nationally.

Why not cut the old connector off and attach it to the new adapter?

Great suggestion - I also have some old or seldom used power supplies that could easily be repurposed this way. Just need to make sure the output ratings are safe for equipment.
