1. 2TB Seagate Barracuda Green: R782

2. USB 3 Enclosure: R175

Total: R957

So R59 More. Although it does have a metric ****ton more speed... and you save a few grand on a plane ticket. Plus import tax/ being in an Israeli disco disco prison for a million years.

3. It's hard drive.

2TB Seagate Barracuda Green: R782 is way too expensive , watch our pricing on Tuesday on 5th July 2011 , prices to blow your mind

That's including VAT, you know, that us mere mortals have to pay...

But I'll be happy if Esquire can beat that, incl VAT price.

well asking for price of real external hardrive without having to put a hardrive into an enclosure

It's safer to buy something locally in case the hard drive develops a problem.

I'm not even sure where you would return the item to if there was a problem. I do have an iOmega external which I bought from Incredible Connection a few years ago.

Personally I would rather purchase a Samsung HD204UI from Esquire and that Sedna USB 3.0 case which is also available from many other online retailers such as Prophecy. You just slide the drive into the case and connect the SATA and power cables - you don't even need to tighten any screws as it is a screwless design and you should have an external drive that is cheaper and three times faster than the iOmega. There should also be a small page of instructions on how to format the drive. Most of the store bought external drives use the older HD203WI 2TB Samsung drive which has 4 platters rather than the 204UI which only uses three and is supposedly more reliable due to the reduction in number of platters. The Sedna case apparently uses the Asmedia ASM 1051 USB 3.0 chipset which is considered the most reliable currently and comes with a 2 Amp 12V power supply. Just google Asmedia ASM1051 and Jmicron JMS539 USB 3.0 chipsets if you want more details.
