Extra panels or Solar Geyser?

Look for the Solar is a f_up thread here somewhere in January. About half the thread is about using homeloans and payback periods for solar.

In sort its 7 to 12 years, payback. It should have a decent resale value and the various parts last from 10 to 40 years.
So something like the panels should pay for themselves many times over if you keep rinsing off the bird poop.
Payback is 3 years if you can spin your meter backwards.

Really wish they would stop trying to protect their own interests and let us all feed back into the grid. I'm happy to use only battery during peaks if that helps.

You get two kinds of people that can have discussions about solar.

Those that have solar and live with solar and can give real life experience input...............and then you get people that dont live with solar and have no idea and but like to be vocal and sell themselves as an authority on the subject while they are obviously not.

Right as useless as it is to explain why capacity is a thing and so on and so forth. Essentially what we learned today is a 12Kw solar battery can produce more power than the entire Eskom can if it was working. It will last forever and you can put stoves and geysers on it because the hybrid inverter will just know to turn the geyser off without installing anything to actually make it happen. Fcking Brilliant. Here we are paid by the hour to make stuff talk to other stuff using various sensors, controllers, and what all and what not.

I can confirm that my 10kwh battery outperforms Eskom 10 hours a day.
 
How much did you pay for your solar system? How many years will it take to repay itself? sorry to break it to you but using your electric stove on a sunny day isn't free. You still paid for it. Well, basically you could have gotten about ± 75471 units of power depending on how much you paid, what the interest will be, and what you will pay on maintenance and insurance. yea... I didn't have to take out an R200k Loan to cook my food. I just grab myself about R300 worth of gas and it last for about a month sometimes a bit longer depending on how much coffee I consume.

So let’s see…my Eskom cost locked in time was R2500-R3000 a month on average.

Now I’m paying myself back R1500 a month and buying R500 a month from Eskom just in case.

So I’m paying less than I paid Eskom. I have no price increases. I have no Load Shedding and I have more power than ever.

Please explain to me your logic in rather going with gas and still paying Eskom and suffering load shedding considering what I’ve factually stated above?

I factually ran my Jacuzzi at 1500 watts an hour for 7 hours to heat it up between 10am and 5pm.
It was factually free. Got up to a factual 37 degrees. And added an extra 600 watts for the factual bubbles.

So on sunny days my jacuzzi costs me factually nothing.

My whole house, oven, 2xgeysers, induction hob absolutely everything run on solar there are months where we have used less than 5kw from Eskom in a month not a day.

I am perfectly happy with my real life experience.

My wife did not want life to be impacted at all and thats exactly how its been.

Maybe just not using the tumble dryer on day 2 of heavy rain.

It is not a big system, and it will be professionally done because the homeowner demands a COC so that insurance can cover it. So it has to be done right. As far as I know, the system does have a little solar panel that drives a pump that will circulate the water. The installer does offer an installation warranty and they are good I have used them before when I had to have the geyser replaced.

This is what I can afford. I just think putting as much load as possible on a solar system, sounds like a bad idea. Nothing likes to push to its limits. But with living costs on the up and working hours on the down, I might not even be able to do that.

But mister Snob-Rich may not be able to understand that.
Have you considered the running costs of gas in your equation VS zero added running cost from solar?

Maybe you can start be explaining what a 12kW battery would be. I don't believe I've ever seen one. But it could be that you in fact mean a 12kWh battery and since this isn't a simple typo as you've done it repeatedly it clearly proves that you have very little insight into the factors at play.

And you either have poor comprehension skills, or you're stubborn as hell. I hope it is the former.

Seen these 6 kwh ones. Maybe 2 of these or 4 x 3kwh.

 
Batteries are rated by kWh, not kW. There is a maximum kW a battery can "produce", which is indicated by the max discharge current (or C rate). A 12kW battery which can produce that power but only has sufficient storage to do so for 5 min is pretty useless. On the other hand you might get a 120kWh battery which can discharge at 12kW for 10 hours. Hencewhy a kW rating for a battery is pretty pointless.

Well, all I can say is I hope you don't get robbed. By the sound of things your system is R1 million and up so someone will take an interest sooner or later.
