Extra panels or Solar Geyser?

The panel cost is not the only factor that affects this decision

They have to factor in a battery and inverter upgrade
...
making the math for evacuated tube retrofit vs pv tilt the other way
The thing is that retrofits of solar geysers are pretty expensive to begin with. R25k-odd. Which can bump up the size of your solar install pretty nicely.

The other thing to consider doing is retrofitting a heat pump to the geyser instead of going straight solar. It's a similar cost to installing an aircon, and it takes your 3.5kW geyser and pushes the consumption down to about 800W.

I echo this, I havent even heard the 300-500k range let alone million plus....
It does happen. Neighbor of a friend in Midrand in President park has installed a insane amount of batteries and panels. Cost of the system 1.5 bar or more.

Thats crazy, I have a nearly offgrid system at 200k but 1.5bar is he powering a small iron smelter?
Has a huge dam "self built" on his property with loads of pumps and a massive filtration system. Installed a 50kva genset as well which he has to run ever so often to maintain the warranty.. Huge money to burn every month.

Brother in law sent me this photo from a place he was staying

Bats are 8.8kwh each

Makes sense but madness

Posting the reply , if i encounter it later in thread i will delete it in case i forget about it, just reading the thread to learn as panels is next phase

Remember seeing a youtube clip from the guys at sunsynk saying on the system mode
It is important to have no gaps and full circle

ie end where you start and have no gaps inbetween

ie all 24hrs has to be accounted for in the 6 slots

I suppose it f***s with their if else statements
That was early days, earlier releases of software did not do input validation, today it's impossible to cock it up because the end time becomes the start time of the new timeslot. The older firmware was clearly designed to cater for flat-earthers. :sneaky:

But I think that the start timeslot slot still needs to be 00h00, makes logical sense.

If freaks me out that people who sell these things can't even label them properly.
whats not labelled properly ?are you talking kw versus kwh .kwh means nothing in an industrial setting ,you need to know what the instant kw is .i dont see many people putting this in a garden cottage.would probably be 40kwh

Yea that is one of the problems

Out of date info can become myths /old wives tales

That has no place thanks to better understanding /advancements

What's being sold in the description, capacity or load?

didnt look actually ,but if i remember it was like R370 k.saw it when looking up an 80 kw system for a client.he needed 12 kw 3 phase for compressor start up alone .but they then run happily at 3 kw continuously

I get your point

It is implied or accepted
Even though not printed
Or said

I know i often do it ,make the implied mistake

To me it is more like ok is that nmc or lifep04

As often lithium-ion has colloquial meaning ie nmc
And lithium ion not the same colloquial ie meaning all lithium types

Naturally this may be just the articles I've read or people i have spoken to that refer to it that way
The pool we swim in affects our opinions

That is my pet peeve

We each have our own

How long can it deliver the 12kW for? It's not so great if it can do 12kW but only for 20 minutes.
in an industrial setting its only needed for the startup of the specific motor .it will peak at say 9 kw per phase for around 5 seconds then drop down to say 3 to 4 kw for running .the kwh actually wont be that much higher than the kw .if i remember the 12 kw was around 15kwh .

But why not specify the kWh rating, then there is no need for assumptions
