F1 2008

Really? Pls elaborate ;)

You were the one making like all he had to do was keep it on the road lol...
No, I don't believe it for a minute... and anyone claiming otherwise is just a manusa supporter :)

When Ferrari win they :
  • cheated, or
  • paid off the FIA, or
  • got preferential treatment from race stewards, or
  • unfairly prejudiced Maclaren from winning, or
  • all of the above.

If Maclaren win their:
  • car is so advanced the others belong in a museum, or
  • driver is God's gift to motorsport, or
  • all of the above.

This was only the first race of the season - there's still loads more action still to come and your excitement may be short lived ;).

The bottom line, like him or not, Lewis is a frigging genius and he's got a fast and reliable car under him, last season and so far this season too. I'm an Audi fan and by default I despise all things Mercedes/BMW but until Audi compete in F1 which appears to be never I must support Ferrari.

Their start to the season was horrendous but I don't recall their start last season being so flash either.

In any event it cannot be disputed that Lewis and Mclaren/Mercedes ran the perfect race just about and they are going to be super competitive this season as they were last...

I always believed F1 changed rules to make the sport cheaper and safer but dropping traction control will inevitably result in more accidents which is neither safe or cheap... go figure...Must say though the threat of a car going off makes the sport a whole lot more exciting and unpredictable but I think it it's a pretty reckless rule change quite frankly...

While I admit I'm a Ferrari supporter I'm not really fanatical about who wins or loses. I certainly dislike Hamilton, not because he drivers for Maclaren but of the his sheer arrogance. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if even Maclaren supporters are not fond of him.

Anyway, well done to Maclaren for the first race.

Lewis is a frigging genius

how much of a genius does it take to drive the best car in F1? or one of the best cars?

genius yes because he got into F1 in the arguebly the best car, legend not even close

genius he is not

best F1 driver no
could be one of the best ever, no

it must be nice to land in butter while other drivers like kubica rosberg vettel all have to drive crappy cars to good positions and when they do everyone is like oooooooooo hamilton won the race oooooooooooooooo what a legend for driving the best car to victory ooooooooooooooooooooooo

i cannot wait for the next race so ferrari can show mclaren what will happen when they dont have a bad weekend which is not often

Well considering he beat the reigning world champion who was driving the same car, in his rookie year, I would say that is pretty genius. Considering that he was denied the world championship in his rookie season by only, what was it? a single point? and he had to contend with petty in house fighting with Alonso in addition to Mclarens controversial spy scandal too, pretty special... considering he achieved 9 consecutive podiums from his 1st race, considering he won 4 races in his debut season, considering he achieved 6 pole positions in his debut season... considering that Ron Dennis recognized his potential when Lewis was only 10...etc etc etc... pretty genius...

The car is very good yes but, no doubt about that, but in F1 it cannot be anything less... Michael wouldn't have achieved what he did drivng a Toro Rosso...

Hell how would you define genius?...

As for legend, it's a bit premature, we see where he is after 10...

genius was both shummi and senna when driving crappy cars into good positions

thats genius

alonso was never happy at mclaren and you could see who the favourite oke was

personally i think alonso was only beaten because he was not happy, didnt get the treatment he deserved

see i dont know if hamilton is a genius or just lucky to be a decent driver in an awesome car

all im saying is hamilton has proved nothing other than he can drive one of the best cars in F1

i cannot think of anyone in f1 since i have been watching that landed their first season in one of the best f1 cars

most of the great champs senna alonso shummi even villenuire(spelling?) start out at the bottom or close to it

i wonder how those drivers wouldhave done in their first seasons if they had one of the best cars?

im pretty sure the likes of senna shummi etc would have walked the championship because they had so much talent they could drive just about any car into a points position

i dunno maybe starting out in the best car and doing well in it is genius, for me i dont think so

now if hamitlon is the best F1 driver and possible one of the best ever like everyone is saying he should walk this championship easily

he has a great car, loads of experience because if last season did not teach him anything then he may as well retire

if he does not win the championship this year in the mclaren then i dont think he is anything but lucky to have landed a ride in one of the best cars in his first season

The 2 go hand in hand, the car and the driver. You can call it whatever you want, I call it genius... I think the whole point is Mclaren have been training this turk ever since he was a bald eagle for the sole purpose of being world champion. Evry aspect of this story smacks of genius to me... they head hunted and have selected this okie and trained him to drive their prize machinery in the premium event that is F1...

All the above may be true but that doesn't override the fact that Hamilton is still a punk-ass.

This is more an observation than a need for a discussion or a debate and apologies if it is a bit off topic....

I just saw the highlights of the Australian GP and when I saw Hamilton walking onto the podium something occurred to me. I have not really seen him before but I have obviously heard all the hype and the fact that he is the first "black" F1 driver. Well when I saw him I was a little shocked.... he is about as black as I am after a weekend on the beaches on Durban when the temperature is in the low 30s!!

I then obviously had little look into it and discovered that he has "a black father (Hamilton’s paternal grandfather emigrated to Britain from Grenada) and a white mother". So why does his white ethnicity get dropped, he is as much white as he is black....

Suppose the same applies to Tiger Woods.

PS His ethnicity means nothing to me and I only bring this up as most talk of him seems to revolve around his race. So don't get the intentions of this post wrong.

Anyway just something I observed and felt like sharing...

i suggest we wait until lewis has to contend with driving a crap car before we give him legend or genius status.

LancelotSA - I think the answer to your question lies in the fact that to be classified as white you have to be caucasian. and i believe that classification works only if both your parents are caucasian.

yea lance

dont understand why he is classified black, he is coloured hahaha

yea milomak im with you man, give him a crap car and lets see the genius

I would argue that he is NOT driving the quickest car in the field. Kimi's car was clearly the fastest on the day, he was all over Heiki and he just got too excited. He would have given Hamilton a good run for his money.

The thing about Hamilton is that he is consistant with glimpses of brilliance. You think of his start last year in as far as the podiums and he did nothing spectacular, he just did not mess up.

But that for me would qualify him a great talent.

And if he doesn't mess up in a slow car, that would put him out of the points, would he still be the great talent?

He would still be a great talent. Look at Sutil, NEVER in the points, but still highly rated.

Ok, I must say that watching the sloppy Kimi this week on the track, Hami seems more of the senior of the two (although he's not).

Traction control really messed up alot of people this weekend, have a feeling that the front is where you want to be.
