F1 2008

Not sire if it's the beers or if I misread that there is a BMW on pole, cant be true, bad dream.

Yep Bavaria on top. Of course fuel levels remain to be seen. Also I am surprised non-ferrari fans have not cried about massa's Q2 double-yellow time.

Do the cars fill up before the last qualifying session? [I noticed the third sessions times are slower than the other two sessions]

yebo. According to the rules, no refeulling can take place during the 3rd quali session. All drivers must start that session with the fuel they are going to start the race with. That's why most of the cars are super light during quali 2 and then lekker fat/heavy in Q3. They also don't get any fuel credits back for fuel used in Q3 as they did the previous 2 years.

Just woke up, Aaarrrgghhhhhh it wasn't a dream
:D

For the season, it would be fantastic if the BMW's are on the pace now to add some spice but you are right it could well be fuel load.
Looking at last season the BMW's finished 4th and 6th so looks like Bahrain is a good place for them.

poor hamilton

does not look the greatest f1 driver of all time to me

i love the commentators

it was good of hamilton to let the ferrari's through

he is suppose to when he is being lapped

you dont hear them saying it was good of nakajama to let them through

I can't believe no comments about the race? Everyone taking their Sunday naps :p

Ferrari one-two and BMW 3rd and 4th! BMW leads the constructor title by a single point!!

The next 3 weeks are going to be great because of the Hamilton-Alonso incident :D The commentators just wouldn't let it go and kept suggesting they check the "onboard computer readings" of Alonso's car to see whether he braked or "lifted off" to cause Hamilton to run into the back of his car. Lovely!!!

Ahhhh, normality at last, 1 and 2 to the fast cars :D
Great start by Massa, Hamilton (lol) look like he was in revers the way the pack passed his arrogant ass.

Bwahaha, to true, would like to know how many times the commentators mentioned Hammies name in the first 15 minutes. They could'nt seem to say a sentence without speaking of their countryman.

Even when he was 17 or 19th or at the back with the rest of the Brits they couldn't help themselves.
:D

Well a very good race for Ferrari and in particular Massa, congrats to him, Ferrari maketh the man... BMW as well, their best result in some time. Kubica very competitive in the BM.

Lewis, battling to say the least. Will be a very good test of his metal, will he rust or will he rise to the top?!! This is turning into a very entertaining season...

no worries hammy still the 2nd coming. genius and all.

I really can't understand Hamilton's slow start...really odd.
Not that I care tbh. My team won!

he said he didn't engage the race start setting in time. amateur mistake it would seem.

Hamilton says he let McLaren down

Lewis Hamilton apologised to his McLaren team for letting them down after what the Briton said it was a disastrous Bahrain Grand Prix.

Hamilton, starting from fourth place, went on to finish in 13th position after a dismal opening lap.

The McLaren driver lost several places at the start after his anti-stall system kicked in following a mistake on his part.

When trying to recover, the Briton crashed into the back of Fernando Alonso, losing his front wing.

Hamilton felt he had let his team down, but vowed to move on and bounce back in the next race.

"It was a disaster," Hamilton said after the race. "It was a very poor performance and I sort of let the team down today. It sort of went bad from the beginning, but I'll keep my chin up and move on and bounce back in the next race."

He added: "As a professional if you start off bad you need to sort of pick the pieces up and still deliver at least some points. I did none of that for the team.

"I had the crash with Fernando which really lost us the race altogether. I'm always the first to blame myself and I feel that's the right way to go."

Hamilton also played down suggestions that Alonso had brake-tested him when the two made contact.

"I have no idea. I was behind him I went to move to the right and he went to move to the right as well and I ended up on the back somehow. It's racing," he said.

The British driver dropped from first to third in the standings, just like his McLaren team, who are not behind BMW and Ferrari.

Hamilton, however, admitted he was not worried about the situation, as he reckons the team still have the pace to fight for wins.

"It's not a huge concern for me, to be honest," he added. "I think we've got the pace, and I know in the next race we will be quite a bit quicker than we were here this weekend. So the confidence is still there.

"It was inevitable that this was going to happen eventually. I had such a good run in Formula One and this is all part of it. But there's still a long way to go. Don't count me out just yet."

Autosport.com has seen the telemetry data of Alonso's exit from the first corner, and it shows that the Spaniard was flat on the throttle from the exit, did not touch the brake and gained speed in a totally predictable manner.

Symonds, who is Renault's executive director of engineering, said that Alonso had done nothing to contribute to the accident.

"Fernando was coming out of the turn and accelerating down the straight," explained Symonds. "He reached fifth gear, at 227km/h, on full throttle, no touching of the brakes or anything like that. And you can see on the accelerometer the impact. He got hit from behind.

"I think all I can say from our side is that there is no blame attributable to Fernando, which is what some of the speculation might be. But it does say we are not getting onto the straights very well, we are suffering a bit with traction, engine speed and engine torque."

When asked about the view of some experts in the paddock who believed it could have been a brake test, Symonds said: "Well, they are not as expert as they think then. We have the data and there is nothing untoward there. You don't need to be an expert to see that."

so it would seem boy genius with another fundamental error in the race.

while i attack lewis, i do believe that he clearly has talent. my belief is that he probably has as much talent as many of his peers who were in gp2 with him but didn't have the great fortune of driving for a car that was a championship contender. see kubica for instance. would also be interesting to see what glock could have done in last year's mclaren.

Maybe he is still a bit rattled after putting the car in the wall on Friday. I assume he was under lots of pressure to perform today.

i think lewis is to cocky and should have waited for a better opening

i think lewis forget's his car is alot faster than alonso's and so do the commentators, so it makes sense he would come out that corner faster and hit him

seriously for a guy as amazing as lewis he certainly has not shown it this season

'sort of' this and 'sort of' that - can't he just admit he screwed up?:p

Well done to Ferrari for the one two finish :).

Where has Brad disappeared too?:D

Not disappeared, had a weekend of work - plumbing saturday and sunday lol.
Yeah, clinical Ferrari finish, a little disappointed with the BMW finish, obviously disappointed with the Hamilton incident, but it's early days. Looking forward to the BMW's being more competetive in future. They handled pretty well as did the Toyotas - maybe apart from bernie and max's red babies we will see some interesting racing this season!

Three races mate, there is plenty of time for Kimi and Massa to make their errors. Quickly you forget the first race of the season for Kimi / Lewis. I think this weekend was a PR project of Ferrari's to help out Massa after all the bad publicity - too much coincidence all weekend for any other explanation in my books.

im not sure what you mean by a pr stunt

massa was the fastest driver all weekend and should have been on pole

he took first place and won from the front

dont see your PR story to be honest

massa can drive but his main problem is error's, he loses concentration which he didnt this weekend

he had to prove he could be the best and did so very well

yea ferrari's first race was just one of those races where everything goes wrong and it did

dont see hamilton winning the championship this year thats for sure

they have drivers who cannot come through field and can only win from the start

kovailinen has been a huge dissapointment, i think mclaren wanted a second string driver for lewis not someone who could challenge hamilton because he is so amazing bwhahaha
