F1 2011 thread

Also just reading the interviews, he keeps saying stuff like redbull are so good because they are cheating basically.

McLaren done the same thing in the late 90's and early 00's. They repeatedly accused Ferrari of getting up to mischief. McLaren must surely be aware of how talented an engineer Adrian Newey is. He designed the rampant Williams FW14's & FW14B's of 1991 & 1992, as well as the dominant McLaren MP4/13 of 1998 and the cream of 1999, the McLaren MP4/14. The FIA and the rest of the paddock have been snookered by his genius, and Vettel, thanks to Webber's average season, is showcasing how good he is. Lets also remeber that the flexing nose passes every test that comes its way, including the tougher load test the FIA intoduced specifically for the Red Bull nose.

He's a winner and talented no doubt, but he is also not very happy and his racing behaviour has been shocking lately.

Show make for interesting races going forward, will be interesting to see who is most affected by this!

Diffuser ban to go ahead

The FIA's planned blown-diffuser ban from the British Grand Prix will go ahead following a meeting of Formula One's Technical Working Group.

The governing body wrote to the teams during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend to inform them of the new date having previously delayed the ban indefinitely. Initially the FIA wanted to ban the practice of blowing diffusers off-throttle from the Spanish Grand Prix but the teams managed to gain a temporary reprieve as they claimed it would prove costly and affect some teams more than others.

After the new date was announced, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner told Autosport that he would be questioning whether the ban was a result of the correct interpretation of the rules.

"There are two issues," Horner said. "One is the impact of it, which I doubt will probably affect us any more or any less than any other team. But the other one is the mechanism and the understanding behind the technical directive. That is what will undoubtedly be debated in the TWG next week, which is probably the right forum to discuss it.

"There are certain questions that we want to ask about the technical directive that we need clarification on."

Following the meeting in London on Thursday, the FIA saw no reason to delay the ban any further. The news is encouraging to McLaren, who believe the result will impact Red Bull heavily, especially in qualifying trim, while Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali told Sporting Life that he hoped the ban will kickstart his team's season.

"We need to see at Silverstone what will be the change in effect with regard to the regulations about the exhaust," Domenicali said. "After Silverstone we will then be able to make a judgment, and if there is one, all I can say is that I hope it (the ban) affects us less than the others."

The circus which is F1 today continues. Seasons are won and last 1st in the boardroom, 2nd in the technical department and 3rd in the pits, sadly seldom on the paddock...

Sandman you seem to have a very negative outlook, some positive thinking is always good bud :D

I am not sure what you mean because this has been the best f1 season i have ever had the pleasure of watching, every race has been exciting.

A sad indictment on the sport that this season has been the best season you've ever had the pleasure of watching. Maybe you need to watch more motogp to get a better understanding of exciting..

The only positive I can think of is the season ends on the 27th November although the title race will be over long before that. In fact it's possibly already in the bag for Vettel...

EDIT: When you have competitors campaigning for a change of the rules mid stream it has to indicate somethings drastically wrong with the sport. That the administrators and custodians of the sport constantly change the parameters and rules of the sport from one season to the next is a further indication that somethings drastically wrong with the sport...

Throw SBK into the mix and you have some of the best racing, anywhere, anytime...

Yip, it's an absolute travesty that F1 enjoys such high profile media exposure at the expense of bike racing... I can tell you the gap in popularity is diminishing at a rate of knots (pun intended).... And with the state of F1 today no one is surprised...

And Casey Stoner romping away in MotoGP is any more exciting? How about 4 Hondas (Stoner, Pedrosa, Dovisioso & Simoncelli) vs 1 Yamaha (Lorenzo)? The top 4-5 riders end up seperated by 10 seconds. The best racing is usually the guys in 10-15th anyway. Vettel's and Red Bull's dominance has been slowly receding anyway. The season will get closer, while in MotoGP Stoner is looking like he's going to run away.

I do watch motogp and super bikes but the last moto gp was just horrible. The 250 was an epic though. Pity about all the collar bones being broken due to the tyre's which cannot be fixed this season sadly. Stoner has the best bike and it miles ahead of anyone. You talk about domination, goodness me motogp is already done and dusted. Stoner will be champion without a doubt. It's actually the most boring motogp season i have watched

Bleh. As if MotoGP isn't plagued with rule changes every season.

Most motorsport is over-regulated, but to deny that F1 has given exciting action on the track this year is just daft.

And watch Carlos Checa run away with that?

Yep, Checa is having one hell of a season but we've also had first time winners like Melandri and Laverty and Rea's had a look in as well.
Point is, most of the racing is really close and it's great to watch.

And there's none of this BS stopping for tyres and fuel!!!! You pass your competitors on the track, not in the frigging boardroom or pit lane and that's the point!!!

...and if it starts [-]raining[/-] drizzling half-way through the race, the pansies park their bikes. :p

There have been far more overtakes on the track in F1 this season than in the pits. F1 absolutely needs fuel stops to return, though. Different strategies... different cars being light & fast at different times. The Pirelli tyres help, but I miss the strategic element.

Hell yea f1 has been more exciting than the bikes for the first time :D. F1 is just pure awesome this season, the bikes well that is a total fail if you ask me. They should bring in tyre stops to spice it up a little :D. Although that could be a looooooooooong pitstop :p

What F1 needs is 2 races of 30 laps, you start and finish on 1 set of tyres and the same tank of fuel!! All F1 tracks to be built with more over taking areas or risk being dropped from the F1 calender.

I cannot imagine more over taking in f1, goodness that would be like an overtake every 3 seconds, at the moment it is about every 5 seconds :D.

Please, no.

It still think KERS and DRS are noddy solutions to a problem that shouldn't exist, but the epic nature of 300km races is part of the magic of F1. To change that would be blasphemous. F1's old tracks - Spa, Silverstone, Monza et al - are fantastic. Some of the newer ones are quite good too - Malaysia comes to mind - but many of the 'designed for racing' tracks have been absolute snore-fests.

Agreed... I realise this is a bit off-topic but hey... I've always loved racing in all it's forms but I really, really love motorcycle racing and I knew for sure how much I loved it when I watched this pass...

That's Troy Bayliss on the 21 Ducati running fourth with Edwards, Yanagawa, Chili and Haga at Monza... Fourth to first under breaking into Prima Variante... That's racing!
