F1 2011 thread

That was so long i have no idea if i did say that i cannot remember, alonso was bitching about it. I did say he was lucky to land in a good car and he was lucky well perhaps not because now that he doesn't have a winning car he is not coping while button is thriving. That i feel comes to down start at the top, you don't learn how to cope.

Still i don't recall saying hamilton only did so well because of the car he was given, i said he was lucky because i could not recall a f1 driver getting his first ride in a winning car.

Besides hamilton only won because he had a good car though sandmann same as vettel and michael. Nothing to do with talent just the car.

genius was both shummi and senna when driving crappy cars into good positions

thats genius

alonso was never happy at mclaren and you could see who the favourite oke was

personally i think alonso was only beaten because he was not happy, didnt get the treatment he deserved

see i dont know if hamilton is a genius or just lucky to be a decent driver in an awesome car

all im saying is hamilton has proved nothing other than he can drive one of the best cars in F1

i cannot think of anyone in f1 since i have been watching that landed their first season in one of the best f1 cars

most of the great champs senna alonso shummi even villenuire(spelling?) start out at the bottom or close to it

i wonder how those drivers wouldhave done in their first seasons if they had one of the best cars?

im pretty sure the likes of senna shummi etc would have walked the championship because they had so much talent they could drive just about any car into a points position

i dunno maybe starting out in the best car and doing well in it is genius, for me i dont think so

now if hamitlon is the best F1 driver and possible one of the best ever like everyone is saying he should walk this championship easily

he has a great car, loads of experience because if last season did not teach him anything then he may as well retire

if he does not win the championship this year in the mclaren then i dont think he is anything but lucky to have landed a ride in one of the best cars in his first season

What has Schumi driven that wasn't designed by Rory Byrne / Ross Brawn?

A bicycle

LMAO

I guess you should only be the no 1 when you are the only one left in the championship. So i must admit i was wrong saying he never got the treatment. I am not wrong in saying that alonso was not happy because he felt he should be the no1 driver.

My other hamilton comments i will stick by, he was rated as the greatest talent since senna in the best car in f1 at that stage and he did take his chance very well, fast forward to 2011 and people are not saying hamilton is as good as senna anymore nor is he acting like the most talented driver since senna. He has a car good enough to be doing better but he is not coping with life in a car that is not hooked up every race where as button i reckon with his experience driving crap is handling it far better. I always wondered how well he would cope when things were not running smoothly and he is not coping very well at all.

The issue with hamilton is not his car at the moment he has the car to win races but he is not coping well because he cannot get pole every race and it's a struggle to win, something he is not used to because he started in such a good car and i am not saying it was the car that made him win, it takes talent to win in a car but it does make that much easier if you start f1 in a great car. I thought he handled last year very well, he looked happy even though he had a tractor and he did some amazing things but maybe someone explain what has happened this season, why does he seem down and out?

I have no doubt he is a very good driver, one of the best on the grid but starting out f1 the way he did will hurt him and it is already hurting him. He should have started in a slower car and mclaren should have given him a year or two scrapping at the back of the field and then take him on. We will see though but it seems he is doing things in opposite way. Now he is looking like a rookie for some odd reason :p.

Look at some of the drivers down the order, i would imagine they could also drive the socks off a good car but they sit driving shyte waiting for their good ride. Sandmann can you think of a driver who landed in f1 with a championship winning car?

Button was also rated as the best talent when he started, and look at his career. Good car counts LOADS. Button even took third in the championship in a flipping BAR.

Truth is there are plenty of talented drivers on the track who don't have a good ride.

Your problem Killa is that you are so fixated with anti-Hamilton sentiment that you can't accept a simple point. Forget Hamilton. I reckon Kubica could pwn or at the very least match Vettel as his teammate.
Many talented drivers... Different driving styles but many talents :)

So then it boils down to good hardware IS REQUIRED TO WIN most of the time.
When that isn't the case, you need a bit of luck. Good hardware is not just fast but reliable.

Good hardware is not the only thing you need and i think button came second to michael in a bar if i am not mistaken.

Kubica is as good as any driver on the grid but he may never return and sadly he may never have the hardware good enough to help him win a championship.

Yes there are plenty drivers who could be as good as vettel given a decent ride. You can spot talent a mile away though like vettel, you could see he was a superstar. Hamilton as well but now he looks more like a rookie than a superstar.

Webber also looked like a superstar yet given the hardware he struggles to win races which makes me wonder if a good car is the main reason people win.

It was 2004 and he came 3rd in a BAR. Rubinho and Schumi in Byrne designed Ferraris were ahead of him and Alonso in a Renault was behind. BAR got second in the constructors that year. Good hardware is a big part of the equasion. JV struggled in the same hardware as Button and there's nothing wrong with his ability IMO.

Also, read it here... all of my rhetoric on good hardware does not detract from the fact that you need both driver and hardware, but don't be blinded by hero worship of the guy at the wheel when two or three designers have ultimately monopolilsed the past nearly 20 years of F1 racing.

Your point on Hamilton just emphasises mine. Same guy, new car - Vettel, same guy, new car (last year, this year), Button, same guy, new car.

Watch the rearview... eish!

Good driver + good designer = Championship.

A good designer producing a good car is the assumption.
Put it this way, of all the teams / constructors, active in Formula 1, over the past 19 years, only 4 times have they been able to beat Byrne / Newey. I can tell you who the dominant forces in F1 are, and it's not the drivers who have come and gone.

So you watch F1 to see Neweys car go round and round the circuit?

Help us out Killa. No, I'm not a fanboy, I'm stating the obvious. I just reckon the real wizards aren't necessarily the drivers, despite them being the focus of the fans. It's not an argument lol.

You need a great driver to make your car looking so amazing.

OF COURSE you do. Nobody's disputing that! You don't get into F1 if you're not a great driver!

Yep, let's move on from Hamilton and whether he landed in F1 with his arse in butter :p.

Yup

Singapore madness this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!! wet the entire weekend, expect senna to win the race

w00t w00t it would bring tears to my eyes if bruno could pull off some senna type wet drive

Nooo way. Schumi will school them all in how to drive in the wet :D From what I've read it rains during the day, but not at night and its hot there. So might not see a wet race. Don't know how well lights and water is going to mix :/
