F1 2012 thread

Like last week? Sure his pit crew screwed him a few times, a second here and there but he couldn't even catch the Ferrari or Sauber, both Vettel and Webber was catching him. Hamilton can't keep the same pace over a race like he does in qualy, last week and this week showed that. He really needs to work on that.

I'd be weary of making such a judgement so early on in the season. Yesterday's results were decided by prevailing conditions more than anything else; clearly Alonso and Perez had a stroke of good luck where their setup choices worked better than anyone else's. One can't really draw conclusions from such a race, apart from saying that Perez so very nearly made even greater history than he did. Would've been orsm to see him on the top step...

Further illustrates my point that McLarens strategy is nowhere.

Throw in a bit of inclement weather and any other curve ball for that matter and they lose the plot. Last season it was a combination of poor strategy and Hamiltons rookie driving mistakes. This season so far Hammi hasn't put a foot wrong but the team is unable to translate that quali form to race form.

If it hadn't have rained yesterday might have been a lot more boring to watch but I think Hamilton may have brought it home. Interesting when you start on pole, end 3rd but never get overtaken on the track. I don't recall anyone passing Hamilton on the track yesterday.

Lewis Hamilton has suffered from 4 external "mistakes" already in this season and button has suffered none.

Aus: McLaren team calling hamilton in too late after his tires had "fallen off the cliff" costing him massive time (first pit stop).
Safety car screwing him over costing him a place to Vettel cause hamilton to finish in 3rd.

Mal: First pit stop: Rear jack costing hamilton massive time.
2nd pit stop: Team taking very long to remove a piece of debris from front left suspension.

Besides, my point of Hamilton being a faster driver than Button still stands. Hamilton has out qualified Button prolly 95% of the time which proves that he is faster and in qualifying, there are very few external factors that can hamper Lewis which Button relies upon to overtake Hamilton.

Best drivers in F1 (in order): Lewis Hamilton (due to sublime overtaking skills and sheer lap speed), Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez.

How is Perez suddenly best? Just because of 1 race and a decent performance year round?

Ja, agree about Perez. One swallow doesn't a summer make...

As good a race as he had, mind you...

As much as I know this probably won't happen again real soon, I was REALLY happy with this race :D
Honestly if it hadn't been for that missed corner by Perez, I think the podium would've been a little different... especially if Perez had gotten into the DRS zone.

I don't like Button (or Hamilton) but have to give props to Jensen. That guy really can make the best of a bad situation.

Even though this race threw some cats amongst the pigeons, I do think Perez has potential. I don't know that I would look to him as Massa's replacement, but a good driver none-the-less.

As for Maclaren's race pace, I really do not doubt that. Honestly I think they are going to be the team to beat this year... and I'm a Ferrari die-hard :(

Why should the engineers tell Hamilton to pit? Most of the top drivers makes those decision them self. The driver is in the best position for those choices. Hamilton takes the life out of his tires to fast that's why he cant drive as fast during a race compared to qualy. Nothing to do with better quali and bad race. Strategy involves drivers and the pit wall.

Coz Lewis is not a good driver?
Well done Perez, look forward to see him race this season.

I just wish to say **** you multichoice. Because of your ineptitude and complete lack of any kind of forward thinking, my PVR stopped recording with 5 laps to go.

yeah - i was like...wtf??? before I realised what happened. Anyways happy it ended the way it did - nice to see some new faces on the podium :)

Not a technically astute driver? Perhaps. But not a good driver? Come on? With statements like that how can we take you seriously?

Drivers that deserve their positions to me are: Alonso, Hamilton, Button, Vettel, Rosberg and Sutil. I feel like I've forgotten some decent drivers, but those mentioned I'd say are worth their pound of flesh to their teams. I don't know how/why my dislike for Maclaren's drivers developed, but you can't take away the skill of both of them....

All the team fk ups, steward enquries, introduction of Pirellis tires, and the general negative attitude towards Lewis from fans and all those actively envolved in F1 wreak of racism. The racism in this sport is so blatant. I'm not alone in thinking this.

When Lewis Hamilton became the Formula 1 Champion he may have been a role model for young disaffected youth in this country. Followers of Formula 1 and fans of Hamilton will no doubt have observed the continued complaints from other drivers and the sustained attack from stewards during most of the races leading up to Hamilton winning the championship and following that first win. It is apparent that the drivers and the stewards were ensuring that Hamilton would never achieve a ‘back to back’ win.

Like Tiger Woods in golf, Hamilton owes a great deal to the encouragement and support of his father. Like Tiger Woods, Hamilton is the first (I don’t know how he describes his ethnicity) to win Formula 1. When Hamilton appeared on the scene it said something positive about racing in Britain. But the backlash from Hamilton’s driving competitors and from the stewards speaks volumes for their attitude to this driver.

If we look at the teams that prepare the cars for the races, for Lotus, Red Bull, McLaren, Virgin, etc. what is their makeup? It is pointless showing us a team from Force India – India to my knowledge will play host for the first time this year. I’m looking at Europe.

Do we have mechanics – or anyone in these teams – who are Indian, African, African-Caribbean? Is there a mechanic? An electrical engineer? Someone washing the cars? Pumping air into the tyres?

In South Africa under 50 years of apartheid – they had a name for it. They called it ‘Job Reservation’. There were jobs reserved for different races (not motor racing, but human races.) African girls went to school and on their desks were placed tin baths in which they practiced washing laundry, preparing for a life of being housemaids who would wash clothes. There were jobs non-whites could not aspire to. The highly-respected universities in South Africa accepted ten non-whites into their medical faculties. Non-whites could not become mechanics, nor electrical engineers.

Here we have buses driven by African-Caribbean men. Nurses tend to be from the Caribbean. Corner shops are run by Asians. This appears to be a kind of job reservation, here except that it is not enshrined in law. South Africa practised racism and was protected by the law. Here non-whites are protected from racism by the law, but racism can be practised covertly expecially in the field of employment.

What racism does when it is subtle, is to erode self-confidence. This is what I have observed has been done to Lewis Hamilton.

While we may have observed some drivers obstructing Hamilton in order for the driver of their choice to make progress, I have not observed a single driver working with Hamilton, not even in his own team.

I would encourage students of media studies who are also followers of Formula 1 and fans of Hamilton to review the footage of past races and see if you too observe the change in Hamilton since he arrived on the scene in Formula 1.

Lewis Hamilton must speak out against this racism and stop being quiet and taking it. Once he puts the spot light on this racist conspiracy, the racists won't have a mask to hide behind and the racism will end. He must stop being afraid of a "backlash" from whitey just talking about racism and it's not just him that have this "I'm scared they'll backlash against me if I talk about racism" mentality, this society instills all people of colour with this passive docile, acceptance attitude towards the status quo of white domination and racism.

I can imagine that this guy feels very lonely and isolated in a world dominated by white people.

What the **** are you on about?

Completely pointless and stupid argument.

It's time to confront the elephant in the room and stop living in denialville. The racism is blatant and you're convincing nobody with your "wtf!? this is crazy talk" responses.

LOL, I've been watching F1 for 12 years now.. i've been a supporter of Hamilton ever since he started F1 in 2007. I'm wearing a signed Hamilton cap right now.

I think I would notice if there was 'blatant racism' going on in the sport and I would complain about it, because i'm a huge Lewis supporter

I did, just read!

No you didn't, you vaguely put out random words. What does 'introduction of Pirelli tyres' mean?

I'm talking about distinct instances of where you think racism took place, the races and years. I watched every single F1 race last year, so i'll remember. I'm waiting for you to point it out and then maybe we can discuss further.

/Why am I even feeding the troll..
