F1 2012 thread

Awesome race, hamilton boy he has no race pace for some reason, good in quali but perhaps the mclaren is not fond of the heavy belly or something.

Wow perez threw away a victory but what a drive bt an upcoming superstar for sure. Sign him ferrari and get rid of the mess that is massa. Wow massa is chronically bad.

Great drama filled race...awesome racing all over. Perez was tearing up the track, would have loved seeing him rattle Alonso's backside a bit more and maybe go for the win. A stinky whiff of team orders down from Ferrari to Sauber though...being told "we need this position" effectively means being told not to challenge Alonso which probably caused him to lose focus and make the mistake. Great ride though.

Perez and Alonso showed everyone how its done. Button tried some sort of half-@ssed passing move and paid for it.Hamilton cruised around the whole day, looking for parking, and fell into second place in the championship. Red Bull and the whole Vettel stop the car/don't stop the car thing was a 3 ring circus with extra elephants!

Overall a cracking race. 2012 is looking to be the best F1 season in many years.

Very, very nice drive by Perez, Alo(l)nso, Senna and Hamilton... actually, considering the conditions, by pretty much the whole grid. Odd to see Button make such a rookie error though...

Not a bad 3 hours' entertainment. :)

Alonso drove as well as perez, that stink after the first tires was amazing. I don't think that call was about team orders, they just didn't him to chuck away their best finish but he would have won if they never broadcast that message.

Only saw the race now. Gutted for Vettel, could have been a nice show between him and Hamilton in the end. 2 seconds and 10 odd laps left. Lol at that HRT driver, though Vettel should have handled the post race interviews better. Mighty fine drive by Alonso and Perez. The Ferrari's looks really bad at the end of races. McLaren, sigh feel for their supporters, they keep throwing away easy points. Seems it's not all that easy winning from the front ey? Hopefully in China we can see some better racing from the top teams

"hamilton is a sore loser"

Hamilton has many many reasons to be frustrated and angry because of all the "bad luck" that he has had over the years such as team screw ups or **** tire intro such as stupid Pirellis which you have to conserve (don't get that - this is F1 man, let the guys race all out all the time, this ain't an economy race)

@Killadoob:

My definition of a good driver is the fastest driver, not one who conserves tires which is what F1 is about these days: Dunno why they turned it into an economy race, maybe because they couldn't handle a black man doing well in F1.

Yeah hamilton dominates button and is by far a better driver. Out of the 30 (?) F1 races hamilton and button have had for McClaren, hamilton has out qualified button in how many? I would estimate about 27. And in qualifying, there is no luck or team play really so hamilton can shine through and show his tallent against his teamate who has the same car. Qualifying is the litmus test for determining how good a driver is against his teamate but you can't really compare them against guys in other cars.

In the race (economy race), all sorts of other factors that drivers cannot control such as team fk ups, **** tires that wear out and preven drivers from showcasing their out and out pace in the name of "thinking and conserving tires". This is why the race is not the litmus test for pure driving talent.

In that case Fernando Alonso should be very frustrated too. Not like the Ferrari has had the best car or team. Yet he moves on gracefully. Mark Webber should be but he isnt.

Your point about fastest driver, that is what qualifying and the DHL fastest lap award is about. Tire management is a character of the car AND driver efficiency. Having the foresight to finish a race and not just the next lap. Tires affect everyone since they are homologated so its just another rule. And remember the tire characteristics were chosen to make the sport exciting. A sport that just isolates the driver is like A1 GP where the cars are the same. The drivers are in F1 knowing its variability and the other factors. If one can shine with a below par car like Alonso did today its a lot more impressive than winning with a car on par isn't it?

And you picking on the black thing, its good you put a maybe. He's as British as any other British driver on the grid.

Yea winning from pole is easy though, ask vettel :D. So far hamilton has been on pole twice and not finished higher than 3rd. He is making the whole pole win thing look like a breeze.

I just wish to say **** you multichoice. Because of your ineptitude and complete lack of any kind of forward thinking, my PVR stopped recording with 5 laps to go.

Thanks to the ineptitude of his pit crew. When it comes to strategy and pit lane efficiency McLaren seems to be at 6's and 7's...

Yup, ferrari are just insane though . I think mclaren does have an issue with their car, great 1 lap pace but that doesn't seem to be able to translate into race pace. Looks like a great car for quali but when race day comes it seems a bit slower.

Like last week? Sure his pit crew screwed him a few times, a second here and there but he couldn't even catch the Ferrari or Sauber, both Vettel and Webber was catching him. Hamilton can't keep the same pace over a race like he does in qualy, last week and this week showed that. He really needs to work on that.

I'd be weary of making such a judgement so early on in the season. Yesterday's results were decided by prevailing conditions more than anything else; clearly Alonso and Perez had a stroke of good luck where their setup choices worked better than anyone else's. One can't really draw conclusions from such a race, apart from saying that Perez so very nearly made even greater history than he did. Would've been orsm to see him on the top step...
