F1 2012 thread

Still bad feeling from the old days, eh? Ex Villeneuve or Hakkinen supporter?

The biggest boob is still Alonso, close tie with Maldenado, Perez and Grosjean though

Sport does nothing better than polarise people. :D

Truth be told, I haven't staunchly supported a driver since Senna. I appreciate Hamilton's hunger, Button's finesse, even Vettel's ruthlessness. But Michael? He is and always will be a total dick in my book. Anyone who is willing to win a championship, not once but twice, by taking his challengers out of the running is a straight-up ****. He was turned into a trademark - nothing more but the face of Formula 1 - and millions fell for it. The brighter among us didn't. ;) :p

Even if this was true (which it isn't), how does this make Alonso any better? He eats puppies for breakfast and stole billions from the poor to get a seat in F1.

LOL how do you figure that?

Vettel proved he is a worthy champion, drove from last place twice in one race to get a podium and then drove from last place again to get 6th place. .

my calculations tell me that , Vettel is faster than the cars that qualified 11-24 by at least a 1 second to 6 seconds. that shouldn't be a problem overtaking them. so i f vettel starts 24th , by lap ten he would be position 10. holding other things constant of course

There's no denying that Vettel put in a champion's drive on Sunday, but he did have the benefit of the best equipment. Not only the best, mind you, because when you see things like this* and this* you start wondering 'bout the Red Bulls' legality... Check that wobbly nose!

Anyhoo, can't wait for 2013! :D

Most reliable Driver of the year was Kimi (well his car was), Even with his "offroad excursion" at Brazil ... I lol'd! Vettel put in a mammoth effort to win the title, His ride in Brazil was epic, nothing short of schumi style back in his heyday... Alonso has matured from a sulky "droll" to a very pleasant character, I loathed him for years, but Have grown to rather like the man now. He is no doubt a great driver. I would kill to see Alonso & Vettel as teamies in RB, getting rid of Mark Webber (dont like him at all, dunno what it is but no, he should go).

As for Hamilton.... Going to Mercedes is not going to get him anywhere....

If they had the best equipment, then Webber should've fished at 2, and there wouldn't be a whole lot of other guys winning races.
Talking 'bout Brazil specifically, although I should've said 2nd-best I'll grant. Miles ahead of any and all cars he had to pass in any event, even if his car was wounded.

I actually plumb forgot about Kimi! :o You are right, of course - title fight should've been between him and Ham. He needed a slightly better car, Ham needed slightly better luck.

As for Hamilton.... Going to Mercedes is not going to get him anywhere....
It might, it might not. Remember that you're talking Ross Brawn here, one of the men responsible in no small part for all Schumi's titles. And the team that absolutely walked everyone else for the first half of 2009. ;)

Alonso's still a sulky 'droll'.

Best equipment?

He started 4th, ended up last with a damaged car and you are telling me he had the best equipment? Are you trolling or does that logically make sense to you?

You? You want to question the logic of others? And accuse others of trolling? Lulz.

Perhaps not quite up to Jenson's Macca, but miles better than anything he had to pass, yes. Even if wounded.

Isn't there a climatology thread you can go infuse with some :Ds ?

I just thought you must have been trolling because he clearly never had the best equipment before the race and he certainly didn't have it during the race but much like fernando he can drive a car that is not the best into good positions.

Please don't try and imply that Michael's own skill didn't count.

And not the greatest driver of his generation and one of the greatest of all time?

Dude is as old as the hills but haters still hate.

I'm not trying to imply anything; I'm flat-out saying that Michael's supposed 'skills' only made up 1 element of an entire machine geared towards his success. How deeply that machine reached into the FIA itself is debatable, but please don't try and imply that Brawn and Byrne didn't each play massive rolls as well.

There's nothing more tiresome in sport that this blind, thoughtless worship of Schumacher. If you want to talk true dominance, true skill... there's a certain Mr. Loeb that stands head & shoulders above Schumacher.

Haptic think vettel is also like michael. Car and nothing more :D. Seems you have to be a one time title little baby to be the best driver of all time.

Put Hamilton, Vettel & Alonso all in a RB... who do you think will win? I think Hamilton might crash himself out, he is by far the most aggressive of the lot. Vettel & Alonso are imo on the same footing. Very clever drivers... it would be difficult to separate them.

Brawn was a supreme tactician. Byrne was one of the best designers during his time. Michael was the best driver of his generation. Put the 3 together and you have yourself a juggernaught.

Tell me, what did Barrichello, Irvine, Herbert, Brundle, Salo, Verstappen and Lehto do in those cars?

Convenient that Loeb gets all skill while his Citroen is entirely ignored. By the way, Michael won races and titles for 2 different teams using 3 different engines, including matching and regularly defeating far more dominant packages.

Suffer under the burden of not being the chosen one. Deal with inferior equipment, having lower priority when new parts were developed, having cars not built to their driving style, team orders to keep them in their place... ;) They all had their burdens to deal with.

Schumacher's still an ass.

I don't know who come out top, all 3 are as good as each other. Would be mighty interesting.

Put all the drivers in a redbull and i wonder what would happen :D.

Schumacher may not be a "nice guy", but are Vettel (he's changed a lot, from joking youngster to whiney ''Everything isn't going my way" bitchboy), Alonso and even Hamilton nice, friendly chaps? Hamilton is no stranger to aggressive, I'll-take-my-teammate-out driving and Vettel got penalised this season for running Alonso off the road at high-speed at Monza. Mansell was as bleak as a Lapland winter. Senna would sooner drive Prost off the track than concede defeat.

2 things: Senna taking Prost out was in retaliation for Prost doing the same the previous year. And as for Vettel's penalty, it shouldn't ever have been one. That was just the FIA harking back to their heyday of being whinger-appeasing Ferrari International Assistance. :p

In the unlikely event that Lewis keeps his car on the track for the majority of a season and wins the title, would it be because of Brawn, or Lewis's supposed skills? or maybe because he has the best car?
Lewis has already proven himself capable against highly lauded team-mates, something Schumacher never had to do. Not that he could even best Nico Rosberg for the majority of his failed comeback.
