Ferrari won 5 consecutive driver's and 6 consecutive constructor's titles by having a dominant #1 and a solid #2. On the other hand Red Bull will now risk fratricide by having 2 Alpha drivers. Likewise Mercedes may already have the seeds of animosity within their ranks after the team order debacle in Malaysia.

Ferrari know Massa will tow the team line and ride shotgun if he has to. Red Bull knows it can't call on either driver to play support. Mercedes will have a hard time getting Nico Rosberg to play second fiddle again.
 
Why be quick to forget Massa's prowess ? In 2008 he lost the Championship by 1 point to Lewis Hamilton. At some point for a few seconds he thought he was the 2008 World Champion. And that year his teammate , Raikkonen was the reigning world champion.
Yes , the accident in 2009 really ****ed him up but he is back to being championship material.

Yup you need both drivers bringing in the points to win the championship and i highly doubt ferrari would compromise their goal of winning the title to ensure fernando wins his title, fernando is driving for ferrari not for himself.

massa is showing signs of that old massa who almost won a world title but he isn't there just yet. Sadly for him i think ferrari as a team are not on top of the game, for instance they should have stacked the cars, massa would have lost less time and they also need to improve on their pitstops.

You can't win a title if both drivers are not bringing in good points. If massa had driven better last year ferrari could have won it. Mercedes i fear have no chance at the title, tires just don't work well on their cars, to me it looks like a dog fight again between vettel and alonso with redbull and ferrari going for the title. Hopefully i am wrong.

Thing is, it has taken him 3 seasons to get there. He's fortunate that Ferrari stuck with him that long. At one point in 2010 & 2011 he could just about out race the midfield.

Replace perez? Why on earth would he replace perez? Perez is young and in a new car. He had a bad race because they tested out the kuk Tyre mid race which screwed him more than jenson.

massa won't go to redbull, i can see riccardo moving there before perez. Staggy is 100% correct the fact that massa still has a seat at ferrari is astonishing in my opinion. They stuck with him and he drove like shyte, he should be happy to be playing second fiddle to alonso, he could be driving a sauber or worse one of those really shyte teams :D if ferrari had fired him.
 
If Massa leaves Ferrari, he 'll have to leave F1 or drive for Marussia or a useless team like that. The same thing happened to Barichello and Irvine. Barichello had a good car at Braun but still got nailed by Button anyway. Then it was downhill for him after that. That was it for him and any aspirations on winning a championship. A real pity because I thought Barichello had potential especially when he started with Jordan and looked awesome in the wet at Donington in 1993. Amazing race, that. Massa looked terrible at Sauber but was like a new driver at Ferrari when he almost won the championship. Massa probably will retire at the end of this year. Will be a sad end to a really promising career.

He was much older though. Massa is only 30

No, he was pretty darn good, hence the Ferrari drive. He was fast but error prone in his debut season in 2002, so Sauber dropped him for 2003 and he went and tested for Ferrari. He returned in 2004 and was much improved and towards the end of the season - he had a stunning drive to 4th at Spa - he was more than a match for Fisichella (who would go on and help Renault to two constructor's titles). In 2005 he out raced Villeneuve in what was a difficult car.

He'll end up with a midfield team before he leaves the sport. He could very well end up back at Sauber if he leaves Ferrari as Hulkenberg won't be there for long
 
I reckon Redbull should grab him while they can. A fresh team might help him get his groove back.

Their cars aren't the worst on track... they need to pick it up a bit though. I still think they rely too heavily on others for their success... sharing resources etc.

I was talking about his first season at Sauber. Even the commentators were say that he looked like he was making corrections while driving in a straight line. My point was how he developed as a driver. When Kimi arrived at Sauber, he looked impressive immediately. Barrichello was the same at Jordan. Alesi was like that at Tyrrell, Schumacher at Jordan, etc. Massa looked bad initially but become a championship contender later. That does not happen too often in F1.

One of the most heart breaking 2 minutes of my f1 life :(, i knew hamilton would go on to be a success but i felt this was massa's one and only chance to come good. Broke my heart when i saw that toyota fk up and let hamilton go. I can even replay the moments leading up to hamilton winning it, i can see hamilton going balls to the wall and the toyota either making a calculated error or an actual one to destroy massa and his family.

That is sport i guess. the only other sporting event i can recall with such drama was man city looking dead and buried for the title and then bam bam champions in stoppage time.
