Russia misses F1 Grand Prix deadline

Russia has missed the deadline to submit its application to hold a Formula One Grand Prix in 2014 but still hopes to convince the sport's governing body that it can host the race.

The Russian Automobile Federation said on Thursday it had missed the 31 July deadline because of a financial dispute with the race organisers in the Black Sea city of Sochi, which will also be staging the Winter Olympics in February 2014.

It said its only option now was to prove to the International Automobile Federation that there was a “force majeure” reason for its failure to file on time.

“The RAF says it is ready to include the Russian Grand Prix on the FIA calendar under force-majeure conditions,” it stated.

If the problems are resolved, the race is expected to go ahead in October 2014. Preparations for the race had earlier been disrupted by concerns that the circuit would not be completed on time. - Reuters

McLaren takes rest of season off

After another disappointing showing in this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix, McLaren has announced that it will ‘sit out’ the rest of the 2013 season.

‘Jenson is ninth in the drivers’ table, Checo is 12th and in the constructors’ league we’re behind Force bloody India,’ sighed a spokesman for the British team. ‘I mean really, what’s the point? So sod it, we’re going to save ourselves a load of bother by taking the rest of the season off.’

Sources in Woking say the entire team is now taking a leisurely drive back to the factory where Ron Dennis has already got a barbecue going on the lawn. ‘This whole decision to take the rest of 2013 off was actually Ron’s idea,’ explained an insider. ‘He called everyone in this morning and said, “Look, the car is ****e and the weather is great. Screw it, let’s fire up the barbie, get in a bucket of cold ones and just chill the **** out”. So that’s what we’re going to do. Ron’s sent everyone home to fetch their trunks so they can have a swim in the lake and when Martin Whitmarsh gets back he’s going to get his decks out and spin some mad tunes.’

‘Wait, what, I could have had the rest of the season off?’ wailed former McLaren Technical Director Paddy Lowe, who recently moved to Mercedes. ‘Oh God, that is so unfair. Please send help, Toto Wolff beats me with sticks…’

Mean while at ferrari. Felipe Massa signs a 5yr deal with Ferrari and takes no. 1 driver position with alonso moving down to second. Alonso says: "i am looking forward to this new challenge, i am sure the team can do good next year."

Ferrari will run a twin turbo engine in next years new regulations, making them the most powerful. Ferrari will not need to develop any awrodynamic change as they have got special permission from ecolstone and charly whitening.

Back to racing today, hopefully mercedes have sorted their issues out and can now rival redbull at any track and any conditions.

What a boring race :(

lol ... I think the lack of comments here after Spa makes that abundantly clear! RB / Vettel are killing the fun :( Alonso was the best driver of the race, way impressive for what he is given to drive. Next year is a whole new ball game.... can't wait for it...

What a boring race :(

Why was it because vettel did what hamilton did last time out and dominated? Behind there was some epic racing, just because the first 3 don't race doesn't mean it was boring, some awesome over taking and great racing down the pack.

Couldn't believe how easily he passed Hamilton...

the mercs went for a setup which was more based on a damp track they had more downforce

Nope, the merc don't run low down force, that is why the middle sector they are so fast, the next gp will be the same. High down force tracks they will do well but redbull has this amazing ability to be fast at all the tracks and mercedes have this ability to have the best one lap pace at most tracks.

Ferrari have the ability to qualify poorly yet come close to winning gp's from 9th. Off the line that ferrari is like a rocket. If alonso could qualify better he would be giving redbull a run for their money, more than merc but he is always 6th or 9th yet race pace is as good as redbull.

Totally agree with Killa's previous commment on the race does not comprise of just the front 3. There was some decent overtakings and proper racing. I thoroughly enjoyed it

I just want to know, were people complaining when Schumi was winning all the time or was that before most of the MyBB posters time ?

I have been here for a very long as you can see but i only really noticed f1 being spoken about after the reign of michael. Personally i stopped watching racing, alonso kept me kinda watching but for the most part i watched the start and that was it. As great a driver as he was his dominant years killed f1. Vettel has won 3 in a row but by no means have they been walk overs. Last year i think alonso was well ahead but 3 races in a row he was taken out first corner and vettel beat him. the worst were the years when you didn't need to stop if i recall. The fun times refueling :D. I think i began watching again properly around the time hamilton joined f1. Michael was retired. Two of the best seasons or three i think. I recall massa was champion but a toyota went off track last corner giving hamilton the place he needed. Then the year kimi won it was pretty special as well.

I think i started the first official f1 thread in 2009 somewhere there, there might have been other thread but i don't recall them can't remember to be honest but the sports section isn't that old.

F1 was boring when Schumi won over and over ... I've been watching F1 since i was a young kid. I remember Aerton Senna's fatal crash. I remember Rubens Barichello in the "Sasol" sponsored car. I remember Mika Hakinen crying on the side of the tack when he crashed out and lost his chance at the championship... good days... at least this year and last year were a step in the right direction for entertainment value. The middle group of racers are bloody good!

Urgh. I am on holiday and can't get the Qualifying on the drifta. Is it always like this?
