F1 2014 thread

I think everyone is playing it safe to see how the fuel progresses.

And this is why saving fuel and tyres is destroying racing in F1.
The Aussie government and public must be fuming at the FIA to have forked out $50 mil US for this. I won't be surprised if they drop from the calendar. Who in their right mind would pay Ecclestone for what we've seen today. This is nothing more than a paid for testing session.

Exactly this. Very sad indeed

Only highlight is to watch Magnussen (in a better car) overtake Ricciardo for second place. Not a bad start for a rookie even if it was mostly a procession. It hasn't happened yet but I'm anticipating it any minute.

*EDIT* lap 53 I'm not convinced he can do it anymore... Those tyres are tired. It's not going to be easy.

Damn, they just killed F1. The cars look horrible, they have no character at all. They sound really bland and boring as well. This racing isn't really racing. Lets hope Formula E doesn't fail. Lets hope Formula E brings something new to the table.

Well done to Ricciardo and Magnussen. Ricciardo worked wonders with that car and Magnussen drove like a pro in his first race. Pity about the reliability issues. It'd be interesting to see just how much more that Merc had in it.

I enjoyed it. There used to be races like this all the time with the old regulations too. Well done Rosberg and Mercedes.

So one of Vettel's records fell today and Magnussen matched Lewis' first race with quali and finish. Pretty interesting!

Formula E will be boring, because every team will be driving the same car... and the races will be short.

Why would F1 teams worry about tyres and fuel when they have budgets of over 100m dollars each ?

Bernie should expect another successive year of falling viewership nxaaa

That will be better in my opinion. Level playing field, which will result in more racing. F1 is all about who has the fastest car. Formula E will be all about who is the best driver.

Yeah. Level playing field. Like A1... Super exciting.

I think what we learned today is that this will actually be an exciting season. Although we had two high profile retirements, reliability seemed reasonable for the rest of the field. Not as big a factor as people claimed. Fuel saving was also not that big of a factor today. Mercedes clearly has the upper hand and if Lewis raced, they would probably have had a one two. Thing is, the other teams will probably get better, as the season progresses. Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull and even Williams will be in the mix... I'm still excited.

A bit disappointed with the Ferrari's pace, they seem to be closer to the Williams, Force India and Torro Rosso than to the front runners.
