F1 2014 thread

F1 weekend.

Monaco weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Foook yeah!! It's gonna be a tight one!

Dudes.

Is there anywhere, besides supersport, that I can watch the F1 in HD? In other words, paid (or free) streaming that works well from SA.

If you do find a place please do share it!

+1

If I can get this, I'll disconnect my DSTV tomorrow.
+1 Waiting for it to appear in a private bay just takes too long.

I've watched the Sky version of F1 for the last two races. Damn it's good to see everything that DStv isn't allowed to show us.
The pre show, the after show, the interviews at the end, the commentary from the commentators, nice :D

Kimi's comment : "...uh I don't know... uh" :D

Sky F1 is the best broadcaster, it also adds to the experience hearing martin brundle comentate almost gives me the jitters like Murray walker used to. Supersport broadcasts the BBC's version. Would love to be able to get sky here.

Not available for SA ?

What are the costs to be able to watch ? Besides the cost of the data for the stream.

Weather predictions for this weekend:

Monaco - Sunday

Chance of Storm

24 °C

Precipitation: 40%
Humidity: 61%
Wind: 16 km/h

Rain in Monaco, now that would make interesting viewing.

What about the NowTV box? I thought I had seen posts about it working in SA, though I think the costs for sports are pretty high (compared to normal channels and movies).

If I had any spare SkyGo slots I would have offered them ;),

Some tyre news.

Pirelli's P Zero Red supersoft tyres make their 2014 debut at Monaco, alongside the soft tyres that have already been seen in three of the five races that have been held so far. With Monaco having the lowest average lap speed of the year, as well as the slowest corners of the season, the cars rely almost entirely on mechanical rather than aerodynamic grip - which is generated only by the tyres.

A quick tyre warm-up is essential, to allow the compounds to deliver maximum adhesion as quickly as possible. A slippery surface, with the usual street furniture found on a street circuit - such as painted lines, manhole covers and bumps - only adds to the challenge for the tyres. Part of the circuit has been resurfaced this year, after the exit from the tunnel.

It is interesting to note that tire warmers are banned for the 2015 season. This will mean tires will take longer to warm up.

Yes that is interesting. This would have a major impact on qualifying.

No more quick hit and run laps. Having said that how long does it take to heat up a tyre. I mean with those speeds, and some very hot circuits, surely that tyre is maxing on the same lap, or not ?

No idea, but I would guess at least 2 laps. I mean, the tires weigh quite a lot. Where does that heat energy come from? From contact with the road? Friction? Still quite a small contact patch.

True, but they take a hammering on the corners and under breaking.

Would be interesting to see what kind of degradation we're looking at but with the slower corners the ss should last at least a good 10-12 lap stint.

Remember guys, FP takes place on Thursday in Monaco.

Not complaining usually by Thursday afternoon I'm twitching for some action.

Tire warmers are banned due to continued efforts in cost cutting, yet they want to bring back active suspension makes no sense.

In comparison to everything else in F1 tyre warmers seem so small and trivial, can they really cost so much ?

Seems a bit silly, but then again so do many FIA rulings and actions.

So Bernie Eccelstone has billions, is embroiled in a heavy lawsuit, and is a short and ugly bloke, etc tec.

But
