Disagree. Only a driver inside a Merc during the turbo hybrid era stood a chance at winning the WDC before last year.
Disagree. I think Seb stood a chance while at Ferrari but back then, both he and the team stuffed things up. Since he left, only the team are still stuffing up. :)

No doubt there is a watertight NDA (non-disclosure agreement) in place that prevents Masi from talking about the events surrounding Abu Dhabi, events for which he basically took the full blame.

They had a good chance over a 2 year period (he was leading the WDC at a late stage of the season) and then it went downhill. Possibly the pressure was too much for him. We will never know.

If you're talking about 2019, it was when he got punished for a "dangerous reentry onto the track" in Canada (he swopped the P1 from Hamilton's car to his). Ferrari had a potent car, Merc ran and complained about it, and whatever had been done got nullified so that Merc had the advantage again.

Which is why those salty tears from Merc about the FIA favouring RBR of late are so good. It happened plenty of times with them, and then the tables turned.

A simple search will show that this is in fact not the case. Also, they were cheating. Although the secret deal that was made will never reveal the full details.

"Ferrari enjoyed strong straight-line performance throughout the 2019 season, with their performance being particularly strong between the Belgian and Mexican Grands Prix, where they scored six consecutive pole positions and their only race wins of the season.[22][23] As their form had noticeably improved when compared to their first 12 races of the season, Red Bull issued a query to the FIA asking for clarification if utilising a system that got around the fuel flow sensor would be allowed.[23] The FIA responded before the United States Grand Prix, reminding all competitors through a technical directive that such systems would not be allowed.[24] Subsequently, Ferrari's form faded as they failed to score a pole position or a race win in the remainder of the season. Mercedes-powered Lewis Hamilton claimed that Ferrari had lost power after the technical directives, while Honda-powered Max Verstappen accused Ferrari of cheating.[25][26]"

Thanks for the clarification.

Cheating is a very strong term. I prefer to say that (after receiving approval from LH and Toto of course) Ferrari applied an "alternative interpretation" of the fuel flow pressure regulations where it entered and exited the FIA fuel flow meter. Everyone else wasn't necessarily right, at the time. Let bygones be bygones. :giggle:

I was just quoting what Max said (look at the last sentence of the wiki passage in my previous post)

Max didn't get approval to say that. I have it on good authority that he sometimes speaks out of turn.

Not the insult I was expecting

Aston Martin are pleased RTBF Sport has apologised after one of its pundits called Lance Stroll “the autistic” during the Austrian GP, the Belgian broadcaster suspending him pending an investigation.

Commentator Lionel Froissart spoke of the Canadian driver, saying of course Aston Martin “want to keep Vettel, it’s not Lance Stroll the autistic who is going to understand anything about cars”.

Told by his fellow commentator Gaetan Vigneron that his remark was “too strong” and that he “went too far”, Froissart replied: “Honestly, that is the truth.”
