TV is Tizen

I have Huawei P30 lite phone, Samsung S5e tab and MacBook Pro laptop. I tried mirroring from app on the phone now, but no joy (can't find a button).
Tizen does work, you might just find it buggy. You might need to go into the TV settings first and remove old devices like this:
Settings -> External Device manager ->Device connection manager -> Device list
Now go to Edit, select all, delete
Now try connecting your samsung device again but be ready with the TV control to allow it access when it pops up on the screen.
I think you need smartthings installed on the Samsung device.

Using Smartview is the easiest I think (if your device supports it). Using this icon if you swipe down from the top:

If it's not there, you might be able to add it by swiping to the right and tapping the +

But there isn't even an option on the app to cast? At least, not that I can find.

Also...
Check if the TV's Smart View function is turned on (Settings > General > External Device Manager > Device Connect Manager > Access Notification).
Update smartthings app - under menu, settings in smartthings.
*EDIT*

...oh, and the most obvious one - is the TV and the phone on the same LAN? Does your LAN seggregate devices or are devices allowed to communicate with each other?

See my edit. If the tab doesn't support smart view, install smartthings and try that route.
Thanks. I got the tab to screen mirror, but easiest was just to mirror the mac screen (which I do often). Would've been nice to have a solution that doesn't need another device to work, but I guess this will do for now.

I can't believe there isn't a standalone Tizen app, but alas.

Smartthings is meant to be it and the more expensive samsung devices have that option built in to mirror the screen. You can also connect Windows 10 machines through the wireless monitor option (I think it's under bluetooth settings).
Also, the more expensive Samsung TVs run Android and you can use built in chromecast.

Yeah, the connecting bit isn't too hard, but the tablet/laptop needs to be on too for it to work.

Could you perhaps pop me a link to a Samsung TV that runs android?

Hmm... never mind, it seems none run Android... some come with Chromecast built in apparently tho. That said, online info and support for Samsung TVs is pretty darn slack.
*EDIT* I think that article I linked is quoted all over the place but false. I think this is more likely:

I think my next TV will be an LG or Sony Android.
