Lewis Hamilton wants South Africa included in Formula 1 calendar
Seven time world champion Lewis Hamilton has called for South Africa to be included to the Formula 1 calendar after being asked about his opinion on Las Vegas’ inclusion.www.iol.co.za
Melbourne — While many drivers welcomed the addition of Las Vegas to the Formula 1 calendar next season, seven time world champion Lewis Hamilton called for South Africa to also be returned to the roster.
Nearly 30 years have passed since the country hosted an F1 race in 1993, and Africa is the only inhabited continent which does not feature on the current calendar.
"We're pretty much on every other continent, so why not?" said Mercedes driver Hamilton.
"And ultimately, my ancestors are from there so that's why it is important for me personally."
Hamilton’s response came after he was asked about the prospect of racing in Las Vegas, which many of the drivers welcomed.
The only time I'll give him a thumbs up![]()

The only thing holding it back would be the ability of the government itself to manage the logistics and financials, and whether Kyalami is finally up to standard to host an F1 race.Didn't he talk about this last year as well?
As great as it would be, it's a really hard sell to come here.
Will He put up the hosting fee because there is no way the South African Government will?![]()

Exactly this. I read a great article on why SA should get a GP and why it won't. Short story, F1 is perceived to be too pale a sport, so even if the government could allocate the funding, it probably wouldn't be very motivated to.Will He put up the hosting fee because there is no way the South African Government will?
I'm awake!Wake up. It's FP3
