Volkswagen Audi confirm ambition to enter F1 in 2026: https://racingnews365.com/volkswagen-audi-confirm-ambiton-to-enter-f1-in-2026

"A meeting of the Supervisory Board of the Volkswagen Group has confirmed Audi's ambitions for an entry into Formula 1.

A senior Audi source confirmed to RacingNews365.com that the German car brand plans to enter the sport in 2026.

These plans have moved into the final phase of evaluation, with Audi in contact with F1's governing body, the FIA, to obtain further clarity.

Volkswagen yet to give final green light for F1 entry
Volkswagen are understood to be awaiting confirmation from F1 over its final plans for 2026's regulation changes before a final decision is taken.

Should the new regulations chime with Audi's ambitions for a more sustainable sport, there should be nothing standing in the way of an entry.

Any decision on how Audi plans to enter F1, whether in their own right or as partner to an existing Formula 1 team, will be the next step.

RacingNews365.com understands that McLaren, Williams and Sauber are all under consideration as potential partners."

Melbourne — While many drivers welcomed the addition of Las Vegas to the Formula 1 calendar next season, seven time world champion Lewis Hamilton called for South Africa to also be returned to the roster.
Nearly 30 years have passed since the country hosted an F1 race in 1993, and Africa is the only inhabited continent which does not feature on the current calendar.
"We're pretty much on every other continent, so why not?" said Mercedes driver Hamilton.
"And ultimately, my ancestors are from there so that's why it is important for me personally."
Hamilton’s response came after he was asked about the prospect of racing in Las Vegas, which many of the drivers welcomed.

Didn't he talk about this last year as well?

As great as it would be, it's a really hard sell to come here.

The only time I'll give him a thumbs up

The only thing holding it back would be the ability of the government itself to manage the logistics and financials, and whether Kyalami is finally up to standard to host an F1 race.

Apart from that, we're in an ideal time zone and have a lot going for us...

Will He put up the hosting fee because there is no way the South African Government will?

Not a Hamilfan but I hope his influence can get this for us. If not Kyalami what are the chances of a street race in Durban / Cape Town?

Exactly this. I read a great article on why SA should get a GP and why it won't. Short story, F1 is perceived to be too pale a sport, so even if the government could allocate the funding, it probably wouldn't be very motivated to.

Furthermore, there's little to no chance of tenderpreneurs being given a seat at the table and therefore even less political motivation without the allure of meaty kickbacks. Kyalami is privately owned and they wouldn't really be able to put out tenders for anything.

Vettel now officially doing "car destroyer 2.0" just like he did towards the end of his Ferrari days.

Time to retire old chap. And get a haircut....

Verstappen safety car shenanigans now officially outlawed.
Well they always were but now FIA has woken up.
