Porsche actually upgraded the track when they bought it, always wondered why they only did the grade 2 upgrades.

Again, when you want to showcase your house, you show people your nice kitchen, garden, pool, patio, etc. You don't show them the uithuis.

In case this analogy is too hard to comprehend, CPT is the nice part of the house, and JHB is the uithuis
 
I can't put my finger on it, but today's race lacked something and didn't offer me enough excitement or grab (dead giveaway is when I keep up on my Twitter timeline during the race).

Charles was on another level today and Helmut Marko needs to start handing out PK's at RB powertrains....

Yes, and if you had paid attention to the last few years, you'd have noticed a move from track circuits to street circuits.

As I pointed out in a post last year IIRC, it's much easier and cheaper for a city to host a street GP, which showcases the city (and the country) in order to attract tourists.

Even if that were not the case, you'd still want F1 in CPT as opposed to JHB, because the latter is a shithole.

And, as I also said previously, IMHO, a street circuit is much more enjoyable as a spectator than a track circuit.

If Las Vegas is considered a prime race, the Height of glamor and will make Monaco redundant you can forget logic when it comes to Liberty Media.
I would be surprised if it wasn't the Robben Island GP if Liberty are making the call.

If you knew anything about F1 vs FE, you would know that the track layouts are generally very different.

FE doesn't have too many high speed sections because its battery driven and cant manage it.

F1 in SA will be on another track/layout and 99% sure it will be a compliant Kyalami

Most are snoozefests. You're basically watching pit strategies play out. And we don't need Latifi screwing up more races.

Start making your peace with it, it's going to be Kyalami - something with actual heritage even though it's not 100% the original circuit...

I think that if you had been to a track vs street GP, you wouldn't be of that opinion.

But remember, the ultimate goal of hosting an F1 race is to showcase/promote ZA. What are you going to show people in JHB, other than reclaimed mine dumps? :p

And you really don't want the ZA GP to get the rep of another Sao Paolo, where crews/media/visitors get hijacked, held up, etc.
