Max binned it more than once last year. Charles got back on his horse and finished with points.
1. Hamilton took him out.
2. Tyre exploded in Baku and caused him to crash into a wall.

2 examples of him "binning it" when it wasn't his fault last year.

Considering DRS wasn't enabled for almost half the race what is becoming apparent is that overtaking isn't any easier than previous and may actually be worse than before.

Well there was just a thin dry line and trying to go on the damp side to overtake would have been suicide. I mean except for this unfair DRS overtaking, most overtaking takes place braking late in a corner. So try doing that on a damp road. And its not that Imola is known for overtaking

Well certain cars always performed better on some tracks than others. So a bit early to come to this conclusion. And more important. This whole weekend was wet, then dry then damp. And teams did not have much time to get setup right. I bet Ferrari thought we will have more rain in the race and their car was setup for that scenario.
2 dnf's from 2nd, 2 wins from 2 completed races? While Ferrari have been super competitive, they were badly outgunned this weekend.

First RB 1/2 since 2016. Poll and victory in the sprint race.

Still early doors for sure but with their reliability issues seemingly behind them, looks like RB are free to dominate.

He [Verstappen] was perfect, and that was a big step up. Now Leclerc has to show that he too is capable of wielding a champion’s weapon. As a title contender, you need to adopt a different approach than when you’re going for individual victories: you always have something to lose.

Do you choose your megastar, your poster boy, the record-breaking champion with the international image, who costs you a mega salary? Or do you develop the car for the promising talent?

And will Hamilton still be there in two, three years? Will he even reach the end of this season? You can’t see into someone’s head; you can be down and depressed or you can be unable to deal with no longer winning. Then maybe it’s time to decide that life is better without racing. We’ve been surprised in the past: it’s happened that champions have sometimes just had enough.’

Pretty sure my memory of the past had cars overtaking each other on intermediaries and wet tires regardless of a dry line.

So Leclerc did not have fastest lap in 3 of the first 4 races? He did not dominate in Aus, easily controlling the gap? The safety car did not help RB staying in the mix in first 3 races?
Early days. but to suggest RB will dominate after one race with tricky track conditions, is taking it a bit far.

Seems like we might not see what he has planned for this year. When the going gets tough and you're being outgunned by the #2 driver and all...
I would wait for the first real upgrades to Merc's car before jumping to conclusions. We have zero insight into drivers setups and testing for cars. One thing is for sure is that Merc can't just throw upgrades onto the car race-to-race because of cost-caps and thus the evolution of cars in general will suffer.

I'd tend to agree with you, but Russell seems to be doing just fine in his car, while Hamilton feels that times are tough and not as easy as he's used to. Hence he has checked out.
Hell, he can't even articulate himself when he qualifies badly. Russell can do that, but then again he's outdoing Hamilton every race.

Ham an Rus's times werent too different when they were in clear air,

Its more a case of Ham not taking the risks to overtake. Georgie made a brilliant move on KMag, Where hamilton kept doing down the outside of Gas, well thinking about it and then just sitting on his arse.

Even when Max came to lap him , he didnt sit on his tail and follow him through. He gave up the position on the straight and lost touch for a few seconds, crucial seconds

Well, precisely. How much, therefore was down to Hamilton's driving skills and how much was down to the fact he had the best car.
Russell is doing better every single race.
If you insist on this logic then Ferrari's drivers need to be replaced.

I think the race position, clear air and bit of luck has more to do with it at least for the last couple races. Imho it's way too early to form any conclusions.

Dude, I don't have to like your driver at all. It's fine, move on.

Sainz was pushed off this race, and in Oz it was his fault.
My logic is sound.

For all Hamilton's "rah-rah we are one" talk when winning, it becomes a very sad state of affairs with no similar talk like Russell gives, and the team principal having to apologize to Hamilton for the poor car he has been given.
Meanwhile, Russell, in the same car, is up to 4th (5th if not for Le Clerc messing up). Did we ever hear Wolff giving Russell a big verbal pat on the back after the race on radio?

Watch what happens in the next couple of races. It will be interesting. Merc won't be able to mount much of a comeback. Time to pick up points where they can, support Russell, and focus on next year. And then hopefully we end up having a 3-way fight for the title.

Highlight of the season will be a "Lewis, it's James..." message.

He's slow, and when he was in that position he never minded lapping someone under a blue flag no matter what it did to that other driver's race.
How the turn tables...
