It's not the cost of the parts but the cost to long term development in terms of wind tunnel, cfd runs etc which Merc is extremely restricted this year. They'll know their package performance with various designs and will move forward with what makes sense - evidently this is the "no pod" design. Aero is not just shape but also weight distribution etc. For all we know Merc's design takes into future consideration of the demand for removal of ERS to coincide with the demands from Audi/Porsche and their entry into F1.

The restrictions on wind tunnel time etc is the reason I suspect Merc are simply trying small changes on the fly over race weekends and seeing what helps. Problem is, it can make it worse as well.

This is what Ted Kravitz was discussing, saying the much larger area of the Merc was possibly a reason for the bad handling.

Where did you see this, link perhaps?

Obviously there is benefit to be realised - they have an army of engineers who have 8 constructors titles behind them. My money would be on them to unlock it in due course.
And fortunately for them they never make mistakes.

When you see #Hamilton trending and you think "no way..." and then

I guess time will tell. They certainly have some work to do.
Time for a new kind of wind tunnel. I remember sawing a doc on the airbag, the software animation showed a small dent while airbag open, they though it was a software glitch, but the sofware animation were correct. Interresting how the cars got all those funny fins and whatever and the current windtunnel and the problem of this jumping like a horse.

Please speak English thank you
