F1 2022

The addition of a South African race could mean that, for the first time in its history, F1 will have to contend with a 24-race schedule. But with the sport’s popularity skyrocketing in recent years, Domenicali and his colleagues are under pressure to give the public what they want.

What the Public want is less Street Races and a renewed focus on the Classic Tracks - not the "Las Vegas" or "Miami" style Car Parks.

Watching that start I actually thought what is even the point in having pole. Second position had the inside line on the turn and was therefore better posed to defend the corner.

Even with the space they have, it's not enough to safely pull over to the inside unless pole gets a 1/2s jump on second at the start. Maybe I'm just seeing things but would be an interesting theory to look out for in future races
Le Clerc didn't even try move across like Hamilton did last year before encountering the Magic Button!

Bahrain 2022.

Charles: "There's something strange with the engine"........... "I'm joking".

At the time, I thought it quite strange to do something like that. HAM or VER certainly would not joke like that.

Sadly coming back to haunt LEC now....

Like a lot of other people have been doing, he underestimated Checo's talent.
I think he thought the Ferrari would have better grip and torque to get off the line quicker. Not the case. And he seemed to have no second plan. Literally try out-drag him, not cover the inside, and hope Checo backs off.
He's lucky he wasn't gapped by Verstappen as well.

Lol ok - tyres bad, give position to your championship rival because another championship rival, Leclerc, is behind the championship rival who is behind you…

Tell us, do you prefer what happened on Sunday or perhaps this …

Obviously racing, but then again neither you nor I are paid big bucks to make championship winning decisions.
Verstappen would have got past anyway. Better ensure that it's done without incident.

Don't forget Horner has stated that Checo is in the running for the championship (much to Jos Verstappen's dismay!), so he's not simply going to issue team orders just for the hell of it.

But anyways, I guess Perez is lying then, right? I mean he stated his tyres weren't as good as Verstappen's, but who are we to judge him for telling the truth.

interesting bit about porpoising:
“We knew it was a potential problem. The LMP cars had it for a very long time. It’s a very well-known problem. If you have an aero map which as you get closer to the ground generates more downforce eventually the flow structure breaks down and loses downforce, then it’s going to porpoise. With these regs you could see that was a possibility but whether they would and how you model that, was the difficulty.

“It was a bit of using experience as to what the causes of porpoising might be and trying to be mindful of that but at the same time we didn’t find a way of modelling it properly. In principle, you could do it in the windtunnel. There’s a thing called Strouhal number which is a bit like a Reynolds number, so it takes the speed and the size of the real thing, then applies a scaling factor based on speed and size.

“It’s much more aggressive than Reynolds number in that these cars are bouncing along at let’s say 6Hz then the frequency you have to achieve on a 60% model at 60 metres/second is very high. If you completely redesigned your model and beefed up everything and accepted less fidelity in the balance you might get there but it would be a big undertaking.”

He’s naturally reluctant to get too detailed about what they did at Red Bull to make the RB18 almost immune to the problem while still generating very competitive downforce. He makes the point that there is not just one airflow under the floor and that getting them working together is important but even that is only a tentative clue.

Red Bull’s chief rival Ferrari clearly tolerates a high degree of porpoising at the end of the fastest straights, way more than the Red Bull – but it seems to have more low-speed downforce. “I guess they feel that’s the fastest way round, so you trade a bit of driver comfort and initial braking performance.” Has Red Bull ventured in that direction as an experiment? “No, your set-up is driven by your aero map so what works on one won’t work on another car.”

CONFIRMED: Toby Venter and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali spotted at the @Kyalami_Circuit yesterday, along with other FIA representatives. This comes amidst rumours of the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit making a return to the @F1 calendar as early as next year! https://t.co/huspXzepHT

The chatter this morning is that the deal is signed, pending upgrades to the track. Bigger run offs and more barricades need to be added. If this is done in time for the @kyalami9hour, then 2023 race is possible. If not, then 2024 it is lights out and away we go

Received confirmation from representatives that no deal has been signed, but steps are being taken to put the #KyalamiGP together in the near future.

Championship winning decisions for Max it seems. We'll never know if Max would've just gotten past anyway. As for "without incident" these are supposed to be the best drivers on the planet - if they can't race wheel to wheel then it's no longer racing.
Don't forget Horner has stated that Checo is in the running for the championship (much to Jos Verstappen's dismay!), so he's not simply going to issue team orders just for the hell of it.
He also said they're allowed to fight. I guess he means off-track?

What you're referring to is Perez doing what his media training has taught him to do. A driver's tyres dropping off is something that happens to all drivers including those leading a race. Can't wait for RB to allow a free pass to Perez because Max has worse tyre wear  Oh wait, that's never happened.

OK you've got me. You've got Checo too, and seemingly the inside track on what goes on inside RBR. Are you a disgruntled employee? :p
