They've both been experimenting constantly, especially Lewis. So sometimes it works out for you, sometimes it doesn't. You haters really need to let it be for a bit. Lewis is good, George is just as good.

He drove the **** out of that car this weekend, even though it wasn't that good.
How is it hating to say that I think George would've out-qualified Ham? He's done so multiple times this year already and was faster in all of FP1, FP2, FP3, Q1, Q2 and on the first runs in Q3 this weekend. You really do need to get your blinkers off.

I didn't say you said that. I made an observation. Read further back please for context on the discussion.
Thanks!

I must have missing whoever implied Merc are championship contenders, clearly they are not.

I can't believe how quick that Red Bull is. Sainz just couldn't pass even with DRS and fresher tyres. Would have been interesting to see if Le Clerc could have made an overtake.
MAYBE that fresher engine would have helped. but he also could only go so far in the race.

No, you assumed I said that. They haven't been title contenders since the first race and are totally out of it.
I DID say Russell is driving the hell out of his car and clearly able to get something more out of it that Hamilton cannot. The car isn't easy to drive, and Hamilton is seemingly completely off the pace as a result.

Jeez, make a statement and everyone who's a Hamilton fan gets their knickers in a knot and starts jumping up and down. Facts are facts with the Merc team. Russell is still the only driver across the grid to finish every race in the top 5.

1 race does not make a championship contender...
^^ there you said it.

And that's true, Russel had been getting more out of the car than Hamilton, what I said was that they constantly trying new things which makes it difficult to say which is better. George is obviously brilliant, don't see anyone denying that. And no ons is jumping up and down, no need to exaggerate.

The fact that George was the one trying out slicks this weekend already says he's more willing to try risky strategies, and that would pay off sometimes.

Yes, unfortunately it backfired. It's not like Hamilton outdrove Russell to get to 3rd for the race. Russell took a gamble, it didn't work and had no time to swop the tyres.
Norris had engine issues, and Le Clerc took that huge grid penalty. All of sudden the world's all roses now that Hamilton is back on the podium. Let's see what happens at SIlverstone in 2 weeks time.
Hopefully nobody gets sent into the barriers /triggered
So its fine if Russell benefits from the misfortunes of others and has more points than LH as a result. All while Lewis is taking gambles by testing new concepts that may not work.

You're a Hamilton fan, I get it. I don't have to be one. Hell, I like Russell but I don't support him either so am I also wrong there?
Russell isn't benefitting from anyone's misfortune is he? He's able to wring the life out of a car that's clearly a pig to drive. And he's doing it better than his team mate. Or is it your subtle assumption that Russell should just automatically defer to Hamilton because he is seen as the #1 driver?
Russell is also testing new concepts...move on. Don't be so blinkered.

Actually no I am a Mercedes supporter. In fact I have been supporting Russell during his struggles at Williams. What don't make sense here is the notion that Russell is performing better than Hamilton when very clearly Hamilton have been using his car as a testbed so far this season. The setups which have not worked has been on Hamiltons car for the most part. How do you draw conclusions then between the 2 drivers while completely dismissing what Hamilton has done for the last few years. There is no basis to support the claim that Russell is better than him. I actually can't wait for the two to have a go at each other, I was hoping it would happen yesterday but he couldn't keep up with one lap fresher tires.

Are you actually watching the races? How many dnf's didnt Russel already benefit from.

I was thinking that it was more a case of George managing his tyres rather than race his team mate, especially considering that they risked losing the top spots if Clucky came into the mix. At the end Clucky couldn't keep up with either Merc.

Has he really been using his car as a test bed? I've read nothing that says precisely that, and only heard Toto apologise almost every single race for not giving Hamilton a winning car.

I haven't dismissed anything Hamilton has done in the past, but this is a new year and he's being outperformed. I also never said Russell was better than him...I, and a couple of others here (and on SM by the by, so check that out) said he was being outperformed.

I've watched every race bar last week's one. I've also watched most FP and Quali stints where it's clear Russell has, and here's that word again, outperformed Hamilton.

PS: Russell benefitting from DNFs also means everyone behind him has also done so. Oh schit...that includes Hamilton. That argument of yours is null and void.

Nah man,

I think you're discounting the way in which some incidents have benefitted some drivers and hampered others. Free pit-stops and the like.

I do think Hamilton has been a bit off the pace this year, but Russell has also had some lucky breaks.

Well, luck goes all around then doesn't it. Sure that every single driver has benefitted from that over the years, including Sir Hamilton.

Yea for sure. Specifically talking about this season and the comparison with George though.

Let's see how they fair in the coming races. Seems like Merc may be onto something with their recent changes so hopefully they can continue to build from there.

Competition is always good. Ferrari are stuffing up badly though, but let's see what happens now with Le Clerc and having double dipped with engines and parts essentially.
I was really hoping AMR were on the money. Turns out that whatever they changed from FP3 leading into Qualifying didn't work. Not sure why they'd change a good thing to be honest.
Oh well...
