The grapevine says Mclaren aren't happy campers and won't let him go without a fight.
Serious PR blunder by Alpine then
I’d guess that for him to make such a strong statement means he either has a drive or is finalizing a drive contract with another team.Isn't he under contract with Alpine? Nothing like firing yourself and not getting an F1 drive if Alpine decide to just make him stay as reserve driver and give someone else Alonso's seat for 2023.
This is the part of the argument that is causing the confusion and is an invalid assumption.Imagine driving a car for the first time ever and beating an experienced driver in the same hardware?
Apparently he has a pre-contract with Mclaren or something like that...I don't quite get it.Isn't he under contract with Alpine? Nothing like firing yourself and not getting an F1 drive if Alpine decide to just make him stay as reserve driver and give someone else Alonso's seat for 2023.
I read somewhere that his contract contains an exit clause he can use if he doesn't get a drive in 2023.Isn't he under contract with Alpine? Nothing like firing yourself and not getting an F1 drive if Alpine decide to just make him stay as reserve driver and give someone else Alonso's seat for 2023.
So allegedly, Alpine had first option on him for 2023 up to 31 July 2022...Isn't he under contract with Alpine? Nothing like firing yourself and not getting an F1 drive if Alpine decide to just make him stay as reserve driver and give someone else Alonso's seat for 2023.

A pay rise after his recent mediocre performance? No way.Back to Alpine with a pay rise?
