The fact that RB left Max to pass Perez on his own and without team orders (I haven't watched Perez's onboard yet. I have watched Max and while he did complain about losing time behind Perez, GP did not say anything that would lead us to believe team orders were issed) has hopefully quietened down the haters.

Photo was from Qualy I think. After the race they go up the pitlane "the wrong way" yet the cars in that pic are all facing down the correct way. Also, HAM was giving interviews in a branded shirt while the race was still going.

No team orders. Anthony Davidson was monitoring both radios and said nothing was said. It was a case of race each other fairly. Which is what happened.
Checo is rapid, but by damn Verstappen has the measure of every driver on that grid.
For his part, Checo didn't do anything stupid when Verstappen overtook him, and it worked out well for RBR overall.
Top of the MDC, and both drivers in the first 2 positions in the WDC. Bodes well for Checo for another possible extension to his contract.

Takes from this weekend:

1. RBR is unstoppable. Verstappen was on another level. Even Checo pulled ahead, but he has some head scratching to do as to how to get close to Verstappen's pace. I do feel #2 in the WDC will be where he ends and has done particularly well this season.
2. Sainz has to be seen as the #1 driver for Ferrari. He has been finishing consistently of late and not making as many mistakes as Le Clerc.
3. Ferrari...well. Yet another cock-up (fastest lap) and then Le Clerc completed the cock-up himself by driving too fast in the pitlane.
4. Hamilton clearly at fault after having admitted it...but Alonso's comments show there's still beef between them no matter how you try marketing it as something else.
5. Sebastian Vettel was clearly wringing the life out of the AMR. Pity he lost 6th. Outdoes Stroll every single race.
6. Russell again consistent.

Looking forward to Zandvoort this weekend. Looks like such a party.

Why does Checo always seem sour in the post-race interviews?
They ask him how was his race and it's always "team effort" and is never happy with second.

Because his team does not care about him, its all about Verstappen. Look what happened in qualifying, other teams helped driver with slipstream, Checo left on his own. If there was any pressure from other teams in this race, they would have been on the radio to Checo early. But they new that Max would pass him easy on that straight with DRS, so no need to have team orders.

You tow the line with the team. Simple. He readily admitted he wasn't as fast as Max.

It is what it is though. In between bad luck (this race with the brake duct) he has made elementary mistakes when he wasn't under pressure (previous race) or Ferrari have conspired to stuff up his race (this weekend being the most recent with pulling him into the pits for fastest lap which he didn't even get).

Christian Horner has jokingly thanked Toto Wolff for F1’s new technical directive following Red Bull’s dominant 1-2 finish at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Speaking after the race, Horner believes the circuit characteristics was a big reason for Red Bull’s performance advantage rather than the technical directive.

“On the face of it I’d probably have to thank Toto for the TD! In all seriousness, I think this circuit has played to our strengths,” Horner said. “We have a very efficient car, we’ve found a very good setup and Max has just been in phenomenal form the very first lap in first practice.

“Obviously, strategically we chose to take the penalty here and 14th became 13th technically as the starting point with everybody else. But of course Max still had to navigate his way through the pack and he did that very efficiently over the first couple of laps, so he hit the front far quicker than we could have ever expected and the soft tyre seemed to work for him as well in that stint.

“Thereafter the pace we had with Max and Checo was enough that he got past Carlos and bring home one of the most dominant performances that we’ve had as a team since either 2010 or 2013.”

Horner revealed that the technical directive hasn’t changed the way Red Bull set up their car at Spa.

“A lot was made and a lot of expectation was put on that TD, so perhaps it’s hurt others more than it’s hurt ourselves,” he added. “So we haven’t really changed the way we operate the car.

It doesn't matter as he would still have dropped to the back of the grid. He was in that DRS train for a while and that also hurt him.

For some of us the most exciting thing was seeing the silence from Benz fans when their supposed comeback after the summer break did not realise.

He's progressed from being grateful for having a drive, to being sullen because his team mate is outshining him.

Red Bull play open cards and even Christian Horner has let slip that the team can only work with 1 Alpha driver and the other needs to play a supporting role. That was what happened when Daniel Ric left. Max developed into the Alpha and Daniel could see how that was turning the team vibe.

But it makes sense to me as a winning formula. Yes it sucks, but considering how many years RB has been plugging away behind Mercedes since the Vettel good 'ol days, can you blame them for rather choosing their Alpha and throwing the whole team and second driver behind him? I don't....
