I'd like to know as well. Always assumed it was the order in which they were handed out.

I hate these grid penalties

They are great and I think they should get even bigger grid penalties.
The limit on components was introduced to level the playing field and make it more fair for the poorer teams against the big spenders.
Anyone can make their engine perform better and then just last 2 races. So if you get a penalty because you ran out of engines, you could have down tuned your engine long ago.
You can make a stronger gearbox, but that will add weight and loose lap time. So if you want to take that chance and make it as light is possible, you must take your grid penalty.

You got your advantage when you were faster, now we level it and you go down the grid for overperforming parts.

Leclerc is capable of winning, Ferrari are not, they will make some stupid call or mess up a pit stop for him.

Yes he is supposed to, if there were no other penalties. When the other penalties are applied he goes up to 4th. Who's going to fill the other positions if he's forces to start 7th?

Here's the provisional starting grid. FIA clearly used a different set of rules to those published in the regulations, but be that as it may. Should be a fun race tomorrow with plenty cars starting out of place
