Sho, crazy that LH's salary dropped by so much.
He isn't performing at all. Stands to reason that with him not winning championships anymore, much less any races, they need to find a way to cut costs.
He was, however, either arrogant or greedy enough (or both!) to demand a massive salary for resigning with the team for which Toto Wolff politely said no. Heard nothing about him resigning yet.

What amazes me is that people still think Hamilton and Alonso is the second best drivers after Verstappen or even that they can beat him.
They are old, it is a fact that the older you get the slower your reflexes get. Yes their experience help them to be good and steady and can produce good results, but they can't get back their youth and would not be able to keep up with a top young driver that has a few years experience.
They should get good salaries to help struggling teams get good results or development of a car, but they should not earn championship winning salaries.

I dunno about not performing at all, he is 4th in the championship in a car that’s not that great.

Alonso is underpaid though.. and not sure why I thought Stroll was paid more. That salary is about the same as when he was at Williams

2023 Driver salaries (excl bonuses, endorsements etc)

Well based on that it's fine if Perez is 10x worse than Verstappen. My boss will also get a pretty ****ing basic performance from me if I earned 10x less than the guy next to me.

By his lofty standards, he IS under-performing. He last won a race in 2021. Last won a championship in 2020. It isn't going to change this year at all. He's out the running for the WDC, Merc won't catch up in the Constructors, and I doubt he will win a race this year.
AMR have reinstated some of their race pace and Alonso has alluded to new upgrades coming after this break. McLaren have caught some performance now as well.

Stroll us useless. A better team would have been Vettel and Alonso as both would get performance out of the car. Vettel outdid Stroll last year as well in a dog of a car.

Alonso could actually still drive for a top team. Imagine him going back to McLaren!

Stroll's not losing his seat cos daddy. His salary is also irrelevant, we don't know how much pocket money gets on the side...

Less valuable.
There are other drivers who would take that seat. Would Perez move for more money? Possibly. Does CH fret about it? Not likely.

Alonso is not as valuable as he used to be. He's good for the team no doubt, but he's not a long term prospect.

Only you Jean Claude. Hamilton and Alonso would whip Verstappens butt in the right car.
Maybe in your field you are less valuable as you gain experience.

LoL reading your posts confirm you know nothing about motor racing.
Its not an office where you can sit and ponder for a few minutes with all your decades of experience before you make a decision.
To be the best you have to drive on the limit the whole time and doing that will cause problems which you have to react to in a split second. Drivers deep into their 30’s reactions is not that fast anymore and they cant drive on the limit, they rather drive steady fast laps with good strategies from years of experience.
Its like competitive gaming. Once you go over 30, you are still good but cant keep up with the young stars.

Fangio says your argument is invalid.

More dangerous cars.
More dangerous Tracks.
More split second choices needed because of less safe tracks.
and More championships than Both Max and Alonso.
never mind being the Age of Max and Alonso (when he won his last championship) when he won his first.

What you are saying does have merit however. but not every person is 100% the same. so outlier cases do exist. The only person who knows if they are sharp or not is the driver. some people feel they are loosing their edge and stop racing. some people race longer.

Will Alonso Beat Max in Equal Machinery? depends on who has more standing with the team. Alonso and Max Both in the Audi in 2026 where no one knows either driver but its the theoretical best car on the grid with a 100% new team. Alonso beats Max, his experience allows him to get the car set up to his liking faster.
Alonso and Max both in the RB19? Max will 100% wipe the floor with Alonso. he has the entire team built around him since he joined and kicked out Kiviat. the time it will take Alonso to get set up will be what makes the difference. Put them both in the 2007 McLaren and they end up tied second to Kimi by 1 point again.

Perhaps you can tell us us why Mike Hawthorne, Stirling Moss, Wolfgang von Tripps and Jack Brabham were unable to stop a 46 year old Fangio winning 4 world championships on the trot when they were almost 20 years his junior.
Go.

Snap!

You probably also think Frik du Preez is a better lock than Eben Etzebeth.
As the years pass every profession and every sport get more professional and more competitive.
You cant compare someone that raced as a hobby here and there and probably had the most money/sponsors to practice the most and get the best cars, to the competitiveness of F1 today. Fangio would be nowhere.
