Whoever is responsible for strategy at Williams is an absolute imbecile. Aside from screwing Albon twice in this race, they have had a habit of it throughout the season.

8th for Williams is pretty darn good considering their car is all it’s ever going to be this year.
 
They showed a clip and touched on it. Apparently he came in at the last moment at the end of the first lap and the crew wasn't ready...

The car is much better than what people think, especially in Albon's hands.

He was able to run down Ocon's Alpine, Russell's Merc and get the better of both McLarens after the first strategy botch. All the while whispering to those softs. He was absolutely screwed by their strategy department and this race wasn't the first time this season, they have screwed him a good few times by asking him to run too long. That strategy works when he is dragging them from further back, but in a race like yesterday, where he qualified high and had genuine top-5 pace all race, they needed to be a lot smarter.

Imho that's a little harsh. Albon's already stated their top speed advantage wasn't to be as good due to running more downforce this weekend. Give them some time - they are building. I'm excited for them for sure.

Pace was there. The team admitted as much.

“We walk away with an eighth-place which, given a normal race weekend, would be an incredible result. And yet, we’re disappointed,” Vowles said after the race.

“We’re disappointed because, for a lot of that race, we were P6 on merit. Sixth place with actually the cars behind pulling away and dropping back relative to us. That’s a huge achievement.

They are also aware of both strategy botches and that they need to be smarter.

“We didn’t get everything right, both on two different calls today,” he said.

“The first call, on the inter decision, and the second call, which is coming in for inters again.

We need to take that learning away and make sure that we build tools, systems, and methods to capture and do better decisions going forward.

Agreed they are vastly improved and should only get better. James Vowles has been a huge addition.
