Well, technically Williams F1 is a satellite team of Merc's so it would be fine.

How? In the past, Toto did own a part of the team but sold it when he got involved with Merc. I don’t see how Dorilton are associated in any way with Merc.

They are a customer. They probably got a preferential deal for engines in exchange for running George

George Russell driving for Merc BEFORE he'd even signed a contract.
De Vries driving for Williams BEFORE he'd even signed a contract.

That's how...

What? You’re making no sense.

George was a Merc young driver and drove a few sessions for them (and Force India) in free practice when he was in GP2/3.

The reason Nyck drive drove for Williams was that Merc made their drivers (him and Stoffel in previous years) available as reserve drivers for their customers since some did not have a designated reserve over a particular weekend. That’s how he got the seat for Monza when Albon wasn’t available . The exception was AM who had Hulk employed as a reserve and used him in the as a super sub. Everything isn’t a conspiracy by Merc and Toto, which is what you sun to be alluding to.

Haas is probably the closest thing on the current grid to being a satellite team. They gave a base at Ferrari HQ and Ferrari seconded engineers to them, including senior guys like Simone Resta. They also buy as many parts as possible from Ferrari. Williams also do get many parts from Merc but not to the extent of Haas. I think Williams may develop their own gearbox instead of getting the Merc unit

Ah, so not Toto who had Latifi crash in Abu Dhabi 2021?

Ferrari 2023 champs
“For the last 25 years all good projects have been built around a reference driver. Ferrari with Schumacher, Renault with Alonso, Red Bull with Vettel, Mercedes with Hamilton.” – Fred Vasseur said at that time.

Bye bye Nr2 Carlos Speed bump

That is probably the best thing he can do, is making clear who is numba one. Car gets optimized for him and strat calls think of him first. Will remove a lot of the clown show we had this year.

I like LeClerc, he is my number 1, but i believe Carlos could out drive him if he sorts himself out.

Interesting... There was a huge debate last year about conflict of interest...

What happened to Red Bull powertrains?

Officially, Honda has withdrawn from Formula 1, but remained more closely involved with Red Bull Racing than it initially intended. Instead of merely supporting the team in its transition to Red Bull Powertrains, the Japanese engine manufacturer will continue to supply the power unit until the end of 2025
Red Bull will soon be useless...

Well perhaps they wish to avoid the drama the association brings or simply seek opportunity elsewhere. F1, after all, is on the precipice of commercial explosion/exploitation.

I am not wrong. It is kind of loosely accepted Williams is both a satellite and customer team.

Toto Wolf owned shares in Williams. There very much is a connection beyond an engine between the teams. The teams share information between each other. Doubtful Merc and McLaren do that even though they share an engine.

K, bye!

Saudi Arabia to open 2024 season as Melbourne extends F1 deal again: https://www.racefans.net/2022/12/15...24-season-as-melbourne-extends-f1-deal-again/

"The Albert Park circuit in Melbourne has secured a two-year extension on its contract to hold the Australian Grand Prix.

However the event in the Victorian capital will no longer host the season-opening race of 2024. That is expected to be taken over by Saudi Arabia.

Melbourne has held Australia’s round of the world championship since 1996. Its new deal will keep it on the schedule until at least 2037.

Its last contract extension was announced just six months ago. The extension to it has come about after the race promoters agreed to postpone its return to the coveted slot as the first event of the season, which was planned for 2024.

Melbourne last held the opening round of the world championship in 2019. It was due to do so in 2020 but the event was cancelled hours before practice began, due to rising concerns over the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Albert Park race is the third round on the 2023 F1 calendar but had agreed to open the following season. It has relinquished that place after the promoters of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian grands prix requested their 2024 races do not coincide with the observance of Ramadan, which will take place between March 10th and April 9th that year.

A statement issued by the Australian state of Victoria claimed Saudi Arabia will host the first race of 2024. It will be the fourth year in a row an F1 season has opened with a race in the Middle East. Australia is expected to take over the season-opening slot in 2025. ..."
