That man is an age exception. The way he battled on Sunday, will put most of the grid to shame. But I agree with you, sadly.

Yes, he remains competitive but the direction and evolution of F1 has changed and the top teams are focused more on harnessing younger talent now (it was also due to the perception about ten years ago that not enough faith was shown in younger talent).

Also, even if he gets outstandingly good results, his own attitude may work against him as I doubt Alonso will settle for a support role. The teams normally get an above average driver to accomopany a Championship contender. Guys like Checo, Russell, Sainz etc are above average drivers but they just lack that extra bit required to become a World Champion. After what happened during the days of Hamilton/Rosberg, I doubt any team will risk having two Championship material drivers on the same team.

Partnering Alonso with Max would be disastrous in theory.

I just get a feeling though that Hamilton has come to a point where he would be willing to settle for a support role so I won't really be surprised if he joins a mid-tier team after Merc.

Where can I find full team radio for the drivers? The YouTube channel I used last year is no more.

Must say I enjoy the new high spirit that Alonso have. He even opened a Tiktok channel and promised he will dance on Tiktok.
Unfortunately because of his history most top teams will not touch him and I’m afraid that as soon as he might get competitive his old personality might come back and ruin all the good he has done the last couple of years.
And I don’t see AM becoming a championship winning team quickly, so not much hope for another title for him

A lot of people mellow as they get longer as did Schumi who was worse than Alonso in his heyday. But I was surprised by the manner in which Alonso ditched Alpine, proves that competitive edge is still there.

Age is against him so I thnk if he performs abnormally well, a top team will at least shortlist him though they will inevitably end up not going with him because he will have to settle for a support role which he will not be happy with.

The days of top teams having two WDC contenders are gone. It's always one world-class driver and another above average one.

The exception could be Merc who I think do see Russell as future WDC material (though I don't see that extra quality in him) but I think the idea is for him to learn from Lewis and then spearhead the team once Lewis retires or moves on.

Alonso didn't seem to be bothered at all about the fact that it was Lance that crashed into him in the post-race press conference. When asked about it, he mentioned he saw on the video after the race it was Lance.

Not talking about a semi-good drive. I'm talking about the guys hating on him because he shouldn't be driving with busted hands / is costing his team points / should step aside for Drugovich what-what and he ended up having a pretty decent race. Of course crickets from everyone who was having a go at him pre-race.

True, but indications was there that is was a bit dangerous.

Russell is good, I think you're underestimating him. He'll probably still surprise everyone in this coming year.

I think Aston had a good evolution but compared to Redbull Ferarri and Merc are just bad so AM competing with them doesn't say as much as its made out to be.
I hope at least one of them find a way to compete with RB otherwise its going to be a really boring season.
Well Aston did poach a bunch of RB engineers...
Yet more proof of just how much of an engineering sport this is. The real heroes don't get a mention on the grid... Or if they do, nobody pays attention.

Because he didn't retire and his race worked out.

I think he left because they were only offering him a 1 year contract and he wanted two, which Aston Martin gave him. Based on the evidence of pre season testing and the first race, he has made the correct call. Long may this form last.

I thought it was hilarious when Alonso passed Sainz and his comment on the team radio, " Yes! Bye bye."
What a bitter pill for Ferrari to swallow.
The only better line he could have used

"Fernando is faster than you"

Still early days and Lance is the boss's son. Wait until a bit later in the season, then it won't be just accepted. That is what happened last year with Ocon. The relationship was very amicable at the start but the dynamic changed completely later on in the session.

Alonso won't just accept Lance jeopardizing his race.

He's had so much practice by now, 5-6 years? Impossible to be completely crap in a car like the AM.

Put Mazepin in it and find out

Edit: I think people are battling to wrap their heads around the fact that Lance Stroll is actually a decent driver. Is he championship-winning material? He has to get past the likes of Norris (with a decent car), Le Clerc, Russell (also in a decent car) and the mighty Verstappen, so I'm going to mark that down as a "No."

SDRAWK F1 Prediction: Lance Stroll will land more than one podium this year, Alonso will pick up a win or two.

Lance does not seem like he has hefty ambitions. Hes just content to have a seat so I doubt he has issues with being second fiddle.

Well Alonso does not have the best record as a team player, he is also old. And I am sure he knows all this and also know that this is his last option and chance. So I do not think whatever happens he will say anything bad about the Boss's son.
Maybe when things go pear shape and he knows it is his final few months before retirement, then the old Alonso will come out.

I sometimes think that he is just very dumb. That is why he does really stupid things on track. It's not his driving ability, he just can't think.
