Yeah I am sure there will be years like that again. But in F1's history over the last 20-30 years, there has always been some dominant team for a period of time and then another takes over. In between these periods there will be great years of close racing though.

There were literally two drivers fighting for the crown. It's been a while since there was a 3 or more way race.

Absolutely flawless drive by Max... Fighting through the pack on Hards, recording fastest lap by fastest lap against the front runners with mediums... Even took a couple of fastest laps with worn hards against the newer hards of Checo...
Managed to go from P9 to P1 without the help of a safety car or assistance from the team (his pitstop was a full second slower than Checo's).
This performance trumps his P14 to P1 last year.
I just dont get how only 27% of the F1 viewers voted him driver of the day.?

Last I checked there are currently two drivers separated by only 14 points in this year's championship.

Not sure why they didn't start Checo on hards. They say they (Red Bull) were worried about losing ground at the start to the likes of Alonso and Sainz on mediums but surely they would've had the pace to get back past them. Or maybe they weren't sure what a good tyre the hards would be in the race. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.
Well it was based on Pirelli's advice on what should have been the best strat, that is why most teams started on Mediums. No team even tested the Hard's over the weekend. Max had to try something different and it payed off. That and Max was faster than Checo all weekend long so it just seems like he was always going to get right up there battling Checo.
Magnussen was driver of the day for me. That battle between him and LeClerc was awesome to watch. Some good overtakes this weekend, all in all a decent race. And not a single DNF which is great. Nice of Logan to put on such a strong performance for his home crowd 
I think Lewis did well to come back from 13th. Max had a stellar driver. Checo was useless. I think I may call him Checo Bottas from now on.
I wonder where that RB ranks in the list of best F1 cars ever built for a season. It must be up there, it is so much quicker than any other car on track, it's not even a race really.

TL;DR
* no practice on hards so no data, was a gamble
* HAM did the same, on hards with RUS on meduims, yet HAM couldn't replicate the same as VER

We all know that's not going to last. It's early days. Unless you'd like a wager?
I think there is a comparison somewhere online between the RB now and Merc of 2016-2019 that shows which dominant car was better and I think the Merc was during that time 30-40 secs clear of the rest whereas the current RB is around 20-30 secs. Don't hold me onto this though, my memory not that great anymore.

There is always a dominant team. Only difference now is you have a driver in that dominant team that is miles better than the other drivers, like when Schumacher was in a dominant Ferrari. Not even their teammates can put up a challenge.
That makes sense though. That RB is in a different league to the rest of the cars. The Merc isn't. I also wonder about Hamilton's confidence at the moment - he isn't as aggressive on the overtakes, he doesn't go for the late lunge...looks like he isn't confident in either the brakes or the tyres, or something about the car. Or maybe he just doesn't have that hunger anymore, I don't know.
Have to give props to RB though, they've built a fantastic machine and their drivers are driving very well, especially Max. Don't see anyone beating them on track this year. Upgrades would have to shave half a second in order for anyone to be close to them, which I don't see happening.
McLaren basically need a new car. I see Lando eyeing an Indycar run or something, he is so much better than that car it's unreal. Sad to see actually.
Alonso is the story of the season though, what a year he's having so far. The car is great and he's driving like a champ, very cool to watch.
Those were good times. We'll have them again in 2026 when we move on to different cars. I don't see anyone catching RB with all the restrictions on development.
Horner said they ran simulations and the medium was best for the start, all the front runners did the same. It was his only option. He required a better stint on his hards. Their hard stints are incomparable and Checo had free air, where Max had to clear cars on his hards, and setting fastest laps while doing so.
Max is in a different class.
