Doesn't really work in practice. There is always one team that tends to nail reg changes, especially in recent years as we have seen with Merc in 2014 and Red Bull in 2022/2023. And as we saw with Merc, once they have that advantage and you leave the regs in place for a while, they never lose it.
And it stifles innovation. Everyone gets told to design the same car and some do better than others, rather than everyone being free to design the car to their team's strengths.

Something to look forward to...;)
There might be something to this and if there is, so be it. But it really seems like a bit of a farce from my understanding of things.

Someone enlighten as to anything particular I should know about regarding this, beyond the fact he didn't win?

Predictions on the Merc upgrade?

I do not foresee there to be significant improvement. They still do not 100% understand what is wrong with this car, 2 seasons in.

I think they might be able to get up there with the Aston's in terms of performance perhaps. Apparently some big changes coming next weekend. As you said though, I don't think they understand the fundamental issue with this car and any upgrade could potentially backfire on them and cause different issues.

Ferrari is also in the same space. Even Le Clerc said this past weekend that he just doesn't know what is wrong with the car. That is definitely big red flags right there.

I think problem one is that their lead driver now has Vettelitis.

We can only hope that it brings them forward but I'm not sure. It's a lot of major changes and to get it all hooked up on the first race would be impressive.

I would speculate that merc have now decided to use this year as testing for the new changes and body work - meaning we should see them only getting faster each race and if we are lucky they will be up there fighting with ALO for 3rd

Nevermind Alonso, at the very least they need to be a pain in the backside of the RB's. They do not necessarily have to win but at least have the RB's look over their shoulders otherwise they might as well hand the title to Max now and call it a season.

That RB can probably start a lap down and still manage a decent finish.

Yes, but that's been the norm for the better part of 40-years. The late 70s/early 80s was about the last time cars looked so radically different visually, with extreme design philosophies such as the 6-wheel Tyrrell, the Brabham fancar, the double chassis Lotus, the cars without front wings, the Brabham ''dart'', etc.
