Is Lando Norris not just another overhyped British driver like most of them? From the looks of his rookie season it seems that Piastri would be the more likely candidate for success at Mclaren.
I wouldn’t say he is overhyped. On his day he is super fast. His only problem is consistency and the George Russel complex of questioning his engineer a little too much.

I think once he gets the monkey off his back (1st race win), I think he will build from there and win multiple times a season.

Oscar P is phenomenal. Probably the most talented Rookie since Max and Lewis so I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins before Norris.

No I don't think he is overhyped. He can be very quick and has shown he can at times match Max's pace. That being said I think he does not currently have the composure to really challenge Max and he can be his own worst enemy at times.

I would bet on Leclerc being Max's closest rival for championship over the next 2-3 years and Piastri or Lawson being the future after Max finishes up in 2028.

Piastri has lots of talent but not up there with Lando yet. If you check how many DotD wins Lando got it's near the top.

He was easily the 2nd/3rd best driver in the second half of the season, with only Max standing in his way of a win. 7 podiums with 6 of those being 2nd place - which is more than anyone else on the grid, and they were only competitive in the second half...

Let's be honest, Max was in a class of his own this season. Nobody was ever going to catch him. A bit unfair to pin that on Lando or any other driver.

Clucky had some terrible luck this year paired with Ferrari strategy. If he can get some stability it's going to be between him, Piastri, Lando, George and maybe Perez (if he can also get his issues sorted out). Max will again dominate...

This year was not about the Man but rather the Machine.

The cars were so mismatched and on so many different approaches to the new rules that it is almost unfair to compare drivers based on performance alone this year. The RB was untouchable but even the Haas had its moments in the sun. So the only real comparison is how well they worked with the car they were given.

With the exception of the aforementioned Alonso and Piastri, who often out drove their machinery, the only driver comparisons that can be made are between the drivers within the teams.

What it did show though is how far behind RB the rest of the engineering teams were and, as a result, it was the improvements and upgrades to the equipment throughout the year that were the real race.

This years championship was down to the engineers and mechanics.
The drivers, as good as they were, were mainly along for the ride.

2023 showed that F1 is truly a Team Sport and not just down to the driver alone.

Steady there Jean. Piastri scored less than half Lando's points this season.
Yes steady there, it was Piastri's rookie year, how many seasons have Norris done. 5?
Mclaren only had two wins since Norris joined them and both was scored by his teammates. Steady now Ikpad

Absolutely, and this is what makes it special in my opinion....

I am patiently waiting for next year now to see whether RB can make another leap in performance or whether the rest of the teams manage to get closer to them.

We had 7 years of Merc getting a 1 and 2 in the drivers for all except 2 of them. That is totally just a dominant car and very little driver skill.
This is the 1st year(from 3) that Red bull got 1 and 2nd with Max and Perez. And it was only just with Perez. So far less dominant car and more Super Max.

No. Just useless Perez. Max drove brilliantly in what is lauded as the best car in F1 history. Perez being useless doesn't make the car any less good.

But at the start of the season you Merc fanboys told us that Perez is brilliant and could win the Championship but RB favors Max?
Now Perez is useless?

Who exactly is "you Merc fanboys"? Do you only deal in generalities or are you able to name specifics?

Perez has been useless for a while, not just now. Look at his season, pathetic. If his car was vaguely similar to the rest of the field he would have finished far lower down the order.

Would it have been lauded as the best car in history had Max not been driving?

FWIW up until now the W11 (?) was considered the best F1 car because of how dominant it was in the hands of Hamilton

RB built a mean machine, the likes of which we may not see for sometime

Given that an average driver like Perez would have beaten a 7x WC in it, why not? And don't forget that it would have been set up for Perez so it wouldn't have been as close

Well done Max.

Great job by George R, I felt a bit sorry for him though, 3rd place podium , so close yet so far from a win.

Does anyone remember 2020, when Lewis got covid and George used his car for a race, GR was heading for a dominant win, and somehow a professional F1 team like Merc put Bottas's tires on George's car during a routine well practiced over a million times pit stop and he was penalized. good times!
