He really isn't though. He used to be and he has his moments. I like the guy. But he's not an especially good driver, never has been, and he isn't on form at all right now. He's just a place-holder now, much like Sargeant.
He’s a brilliant driver in the right car. Beat a 4x WC in his first season at RB. He was the only guy on the grid to beat a Merc that year. That’s good enough for me.

Schumi and Vettel showed us all how brilliance can fade in the wrong hardware.

He definitely used to be, yea.

Jeepers okes. One DNF and Max is retiring?

Posted this before the race and I was not the only one here to question whether he has the motivation to go for 8 titles.

If he does not have the motivation, he won't be the first nor last. Rosberg was content with one title when IMO, he could have perhaps maybe won one more.

Montoya with the right mentality could have been WDC material but he chose to leave for American racing even though he could have stayed in F1.

He was much younger and more motivated. His time is up. It's bad when Yuki is beating you...

It takes way more than a driver to win races. Schumi was beaten by Rosberg every year at Mercedes. Was that low motivation on his part? Vettel lost motivation early on too?

There's no reason to question it speculate about it. He said it himself. As long as he had the car to compete for titles he'll do it but he had interests in other formats like endurance racing.

What's the consensus regarding Russell's radio pleas for a red flag?

Scared for his safety (completely justified) or hoping the red flag would've still given him points?

Why does there need to be a consensus on this?

In the audio he clearly states that he's in the middle of the track at a fast spot, if you were stuck in a position where a car doing 200-300km/hr could plough into you, would you be thinking of points or getting the **** out of there?

I saw the points theory in a comments section on another site and thought I'd query it here.

It's not my theory. In fact, I fully agree with your viewpoint.

I think you misunderstand the word consensus.

Race was spoiled for me when my son phoned me early in the morning and started singing "Smooth operator". What a little shyte.

Anyway, watched the highlights later on and it was as always another exciting Ausie race. Happy for Carlos, he is making his claim for any seat on that grid next year. I have a feeling RB, Merc and Aston is throwing everything at him at the moment.

Bad day for Merc. LH really did see something behind the scenes pre-season that make him say nope I am out.

Jassas, that Lion is poked. Expect the next race to be a demolition from Max.

The engineers, tech team at Merc just seem utterly clueless about the current era of F1 car.

3 races in and get the sense everything they try wrt car setup is decided by throwing darts blindfolded and going with whatever idea they hit.

Appears for yet another year, their sim data is again miles off reality. Baffling that they are so lost.

Hamilton clearly realised no matter any car improvements, any progress on track was going to be completely random, like drawing straws.

I wonder if he might not step out of the team earlier. Perhaps decide to take the rest of the season off and get ready for 2025. From what I can pick up from his interviews, he does not want to be there. I bet Toto will get more out of a reserve driver at this stage tbh.

Happy for Carlos.

Find the Alonso penalty harsh, but fair. 10 seconds would have maybe been more correct than 20, but I understand the logic of the stewards.

WRT LH taking a break mid season because the merc is so bad, that will never happen. that man has too much hunger and drive in him to sit out half a season.
and we have already discussed Mic (the reserve Driver) at length. I don't see it happening. but I did not see the move to Ferrari happening so....

Refreshing to have a new race winner and a new team doing a 1/2 podium. Good on the Mclarens on getting a 3/4 finish. But apart from Max's, Lewis' and Russell's retirements, a bit bland on the excitement factor, although the Ferraris did not win by as big a margin as we normally see from the Red Bulls.

Would be nicer if all cars were on the track for the win but the Ferrari 1..2 and the Italian celebration and anthem playing was a great treat.
