Big win for Merc and great loss for Ferrari.
Ask Alonso what teams think of drivers that constantly complain and then even say in the media how bad the car is.
Merc was sitting with a big problem. They have a driver that is not performing and old. But they cant fire him, the backlash from fans and the media would be to big. So they gave him new contract and now they probably smiling. Bet they would not even have complained or tried to stop the move. Maybe they pushed for this move.
Ferrari, well we know there history of making bad decisions.

Did we forget how many times Hamilton wanted to give up mid race?
Did we forget how many times Hamilton told us how bad the car is?
Did we forget the constant complaining on the radio every race?
But we think this was just Hamilton's decision?

My view is Merc’s driver will solely rest on how Kimi performs in F2 this year. If he dominates he’ll probably get an F1 seat - if he struggles probably will spend another year in F2 and Merc will seek a short term fill which could be old school or Mick. I’m also not convinced that Russell is a lock at Merc for 2026 onwards. Regardless, Merc has hemorrhaged much of their engineering talent in the last few years so Toto has got more than just drivers to worry about.

The top young drivers are set to be locked in elsewhere. Leclerc is certainly Ferrari's long-term commitment; McLaren will stick with one or both of Norris and Piastri and I cannot see Max leaving Red Bull anytime.

I am a fan of Albon, but the last time he was in a high-profile seat he crumbled. Granted he is more experienced now and may be better equipped to deal with the pressures of driving for a top team, but unless some new blood hits the scene, Russell is Mercedes' immediate long-term commitment.

They've been quite respectful of each other thus far.
Yes they have, let's hope this season they can show proper team work (even though technically their still rivals Merc vs Ferrari). Charles is going to feel the pressure. Who will be #1 driver for Ferrari next year? So far it will be Charlesd but Lewis will give his 150% for sure to be #1.

On the plus side Lewis can now finally drive a nice ferrari in the streets with his friends. I am sure this is something he has wanted for a very long time
Imagine been so rich like he is but you are not allowed to be seen in a Ferrari? LOL

If Merc announces an extension to Russell in the next few months I'll agree with you. Imho though anything is possible at Merc now especially for 2026 onwards.

He's got a LaFerrari and 599GTO in Monaco and is constantly snapped with Ferrari's and all manner of other cars?

Lol. Is this why Mercedes extended his contract in August?

That said, I don't get this switch from both a Ferrari and Hamilton point of view... Ferrari should be focusing on Leclerc and setting the foundation for the 2026 regulation changes. If they were dead set on getting rid of Sainz and bringing in an experienced driver then Hulk would have been a solid choice while reaffirming their commitment to Leclerc.

As for Hamilton, other than being able to bookend his career wearing red, I see no upside. He is going to have to go up against the fastest driver in F1 over a single lap. The same guy who gave prime Vettel PTSD.

Of course this Ferrari/Hamilton thing is a marketers wet dream.

I am surprised his contract with Mercedes allows him to be seen in a Ferrari. Thanx

I'd expect his experience is invaluable not only to the team but also Ferrari's most promising young driver in years. Also there's something to say about the engineers poached from Merc to join Ferrari - having Lewis there to provide feedback they're most familiar with is definitely a bonus too.

Lol. This is not a DTS Netflix script. It's a loss for Merc and a gain for Ferrari.

I'd like to see Sainz replace Stroll but we all know that not going to happen.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, will Hamilton be happy to settle as driver no. 2?

AKTCHUALLY, that's incorrect.

Ferrari's last WDC was 2007 when Kimi Raikkonen won.

True. I remember those days. Toto would come in over the radio and encourage him to press on.

Well I would not be surprised if DTS had a hand in this move, they want drama and would help pay for that drama and we all know that Hamilton like the camera and attention.
