IMO, they saved F1. Ecclestone was also greedy and did not know how to relate to a younger, modern audience.

Yeah, considering he likely has not made significant improvement in over a decade, he probably won't recover.

It's amazing he has been kept alive for so long but I guess that is what money does. The doctors would have given up long ago if it was one of us.

I would not want to live like how he does but I'm sure this was is wish. He started F1 when it was far more dangerous than today and so probably had what should happen in a situation like this planned.

Why do you say he has been kept alive? Do you know his condition?

If it wasn't for Ecclestone I doubt F1 would be what it is today. Liberty has been a curse and a blessing but overall F1 is better off despite criticism imho. The FIA though, I can't say the same.

According to reports, his medical bills are well over 1 million rand per month.

None of us apart from insiders know his condition, but based on what Mick and his mother said in the Netflix doc on Schumacher, his condition is obviously not good. Mick confirms he cannot communicate with him.

Corinna (Michael's wife) only speaks about him in past tense as though he is dead in the doc.

IMO, the Michael that we knew died after the accident in 2013. It is just a shell of a body being kept alive now and another person.

Ecclestone did some morally objectionable things like a lot of businessmen, but yeah, he was relevant for a time. It was good at the end that he left because F1 needed to go into a new direction to gain new fans because it could not just rely on the old guard.

Yes but many people are in comas or cant communicate, but they do not have to be kept alive. People that needs to be kept alive normally does not live that long.
Reports are reports, same as rumors, not always very accurate. And to have private medical staff working for you with non disclosure agreements can quickly rack up the dollars. probably trying all kinds of treatments to improve the condition also cost a fortune.

There is obviously extensive brain damage that affects speech, memory perhaps, mobility. But if he has been going for over 10 years, it means the basic things like breathing, eating, being aware etc is still there.

Eventually the body will give in though, It can handle that kind off stress only so long.

Money goes a long way in terms of prolonging life but not necessarily improving quality of life.

If one of us was in his position, I doubt we'd be alive today. He was in a coma for 7 odd months IIRC after the accident so pretty sure the plug would have been pulled then if he did not have money.

If I was in that position and eventually regained consciousness this many years later, it would be bitchslaps all round for the entire family. That's not living. It's barely surviving.

Bit harsh imo. I'm no fan of Lance Stroll and whether he deserves to be on the grid is debatable but it's hard to overlook the part Lawrence Stroll played in the rescue of Force India (and the hundreds of jobs he saved). He has committed to F1 by bringing Aston Martin back as a fully fledged team by investing in a state of the art facility aimed at driving the team forward. Whatever our opinions of the man are, he played a monumental role in Aston Martin being on the grid today.
