No, I think he is holding out for RB or Merc but most likely will sign for Alpine or Williams.
Merc seems to be hoping Max does something crazy and leaves RB at the end of 2024.
I think we’ve been fairly forthright and open on who we’d like to sign,” he [James Vowles] told Talksport, “but that doesn’t mean it will necessarily happen. We know where we place in the grand scheme of things.”
Recent rumors suggested Sainz had irked Vowles by missing several decision deadlines and trying to limit the length or strength of a contract, so that he could keep his options open for a rapid follow-up move to a bigger team.
“What I would say is this,” Vowles continued. “What I want is a driver that also wants to be a part of our journey, that understands what Williams is about, both the old and the new, and wants that to be at the heart of what they’re doing driving-wise.
“And sometimes that doesn’t match up,” he added. “Sometimes it does, but that’s really important to me.”
When asked if he is implying that he doesn’t want Williams to be seen as a stepping-stone to a driver’s next and more preferred move, Vowles answered: “Correct.
“That’s important to me,” Vowles said. “And I want that to be at the foundation of a decision.”
At the same time, Vowles indicated that he understands Sainz’s reluctance. “I get it,” he said.
“To some extent, his dream was to be in a Ferrari or in a top team. That’s not happening. My goal behind is simply to lay it on the table. ‘This is what we can offer’.
“‘If you want it, great, we’re here. And if you don’t, not a problem’. We’re going to find our own pathway through to things. So his timeline might not be the same as my timeline is the best way of putting it.”
He screwed himself. Was hoping to play most teams for a one year contract while he looked for a better long term deal, and they all saw through it. Max ain't going anywhere.I can see both sides point here, but I think Sainz is playing dangerous game. It just seems to me that he is hoping and praying that Max makes a move this year.. perhaps he has some insider info that we don't

But Max doesn't want the competition he wants a willing second to act as No2Red Bull should ditch Perez and sign Sainz. I would have taken Sainz over Perez in the first place.
Err... No way Sainz can beat Max in the same car. Sure, Sainz is a very good driver, and will be closer to MV than Perez usually is, but he won't out and out beat him, unless MV has mechanical issues. But Max doesn't want the competition he wants a willing second to act as No2

Yeah no
Given the right equipment I think he could, and the second seat at MB is closed, despite not having a driver, because he would pose a threat to George. Le Clerc is meant to be the golden boy but Sainz has out performed him since day one. I think we are all underestimating his skill and tenacity and his father is a good mentor to keep him focused.Err... No way Sainz can beat Max in the same car. Sainz isn't competition for Max. Sainz would just be another Perez, Gasley, Albon etc. at RBBut Max doesn't want the competition he wants a willing second to act as No2
I didn't realise you were so close to the man to know his wishes so well. But Max doesn't want the competition he wants a willing second to act as No2
OMG. So Sainz finished 2nd in the championship in 2022?Le Clerc is meant to be the golden boy but Sainz has out performed him since day one.
