solid logic.
I think they will keep Bottas, because I dont think he is ready to retire yet.

but if they dont sign Bottas, then I think he will take reserve driver roll at Merc and hope to replace Kimi half way though the season when they decide to send him down to F2 to gain more experience. Merc is not the same as RB
Valterri deserves a seat in F1 for sure - I'd had hoped he would've got invited back for 2025 for a year and Antonelli join in 2026 but timing didn't work out. Merc will stick with Kimi for 2-3 years minimum - doubt he'll return to F2 if he botches his opportunity.

he does not yet have the superlicence points for this season. kimi will need a lot of Fp1 sessions and will have a minimum final result requirement in F2 in order to be able to race in F1 next year
I thought he did but it was just his age?

Bottas and George will not work as team mates, we all know this. George and Max would be a less toxic pairing.
sadly I think his only shot in F1 is in that Sauber unless colepinto gets that seat by scoring some points in the Williams.
and he really does deserve that chance.

colepinto has a very interessting story of how he got to F2 and now F1.
but funding is a problem for him

I thought Mick might've ended up at Williams for a season but it wasn't to be. He really didn't do much with his time at Haas despite others who have done way more with the turd of a car and team. Maybe he lands Audi - time will tell.
Well young drivers make mistakes. If you in a shitbox like the Haas was at that stage, you going to make even more. In the later part of the season he started looking to be faster than Magnussen, but by that time the writing was on the wall from the cost of his crashes.
If Williams gave him the chance for these last 9 races, everyone could have seen if he has a possible future or must go do something else.

Antonelli will end up being a massive disappointment...
Kid skipped F3 and went to Prema in F2 who has a weak car this year. After a few races getting used to the car he started scoring wins, beating kids a few years older than himself in a car without power steering.

Then he hits FP1 at Monza and starts pulling sector times faster than experienced F1 drivers (but crashes)

He's full of raw talent, that guy. He has already impressed his engineers. Toto says his major problem is slowing him down, which is a good problem to have...

he did, you are right. jsut went to go look it up.
Williams put in the request (allegedly) and he turned 18 on Zandvoort sunday.

strange that Williams did not take him for the rest of the season. maybe because Merc wanted to get him into their car for Fp1 cost him the seat for the rest of the year....

The difference is that Antonelli's arrival would be imminent and Max would be a multiyear deal so George would be under threat and that'd more toxic. Bottas would see a 1 year as a chance to simply race and springboard to another team after especially without a drive for 2025.

Hype and expectations probably has a lot to do with it. Merc needs marketing wins and a new hyped-up young driver is all they got. George is hardly a Lewis in the marketing dept on and off track. A poor Williams race and might be problematic.

Although Williams denies it. There are rumors all over the place that Colapinto Argentinian sponsors are paying them $500 000 per race.

Still not convinced, you can't read too much into FP times. Everyone runs different times for their own reasons.

As I said I hope I'm wrong about him., but the hype over him seems to be coming more from Merc than the general field (as it was with Piastri)...

Yes his "great" times in the start of the session was still 2.3s slower than the times at the end of the session and nobody goes full blast in FP1

It's his rise from karting that's impressive. It's very Verstappen-like. The kid's trophy cabinet is already full from all the trophies he won along the way. And just like Verstappen he is brilliant in wet conditions (see F2 Silverstone)

PS He's already raced against and beaten the likes of Lawson and Tsunoda. Don't forget he regularly beats Bearman in the same car who impressed all of F1 in Jeddah and is 2 years older.

This kid is wired for F1.

I do believe that is what got him the seat IN ADDITION to his talent.

Merc funded him going to F2 and skipping F1.
I believe their plan was for him to do 2 years in F2 (unless he won f2 on debut) and then take Lewis's seat for 2026, that is why the negotiations for LH took so long last year, Lewis wanted to be there for 2026. toto showed his hand, Lewis took the opportunity and moved to Ferrari for 2025.

i fully agree with everything you are saying.
he takes 3 races to get to speed in the spec and then dominates.
he is not dominating F2 because this year Prema does not understand how to set up the car correctly and that cost him and Bearman. but in the races where skill is more important than set up he has really shined.

I do believe he needs another season in f2 or at least a season (or half a season) in f1 at a lesser team.
and i think that was the plan. get him into the Williams seat for 2025, and in 2026 put him and George at Merc

Bottas is going to stay with Kick Sauber, and Audi. Magnussen is going to bow out of F1 for the time being. Yuki has a seat for as long as Honda is the VCARB/Red Bull engine supplier, I'd like to see what happens in 2026. Alonso might have to give up a seat if Honda wants a Japanese driver in the Aston Martin. It would be a big surprise if Stroll loses his seat.

To add, I think McLaren needs to favour Lando for the rest of the season, obviously to not impede Oscar, but Lando, realistically, has the best chance of beating Max in the Driver's Champ.
