Geez are you a female?
Its is pretty simple.
First answer this.
Did Max pass Russell before the reached the braking points at turn 1. And I mean clearly pass, full car long before they started braking.
If so, then he could not gain an advantage over Russell, because he already passed Russell. He already was ahead of Russell.
Simple as that. If you want to argue against that, then you have no idea how F1 works.

Now to entertain you ma'am. If you want to come up with BS that Russell made the corner. Yes he did, so did most of the field. SO again you want guys that does not make a cornet fall back behind all the cars behind them that did make the corner even 20th place? Before you start your pigeon chess on this, answer the first question first.
Can't argue without insults eh?

Bud, I already answered your 20th position question. It's not the whole field but Max gaining an advantage over the immediate challenger to the position itself. He retained his position despite leaving the track.

LOL Yes Alonso was in like 12th. So again, must anyone in say the top 5 drop to the back of the field if they miss a corner and everyone behind them make a corner?
What has his position on track have to do with his observation that cutting the track and passing cars who are on track is largely ignored by the FIA? So next year someone should just take the left hand side and drive Charle's route and take 1st as long as they're ahead at the apex without any chance of turning in. And even if they're not as long as they pass the guys in 2nd,3rd,4th and give up first that's a win  And you wonder why everyone's demanding gravel and bollards.

If I ask if you a woman because you argue like one, its not an insult. I just want to know what we dealing with.
If I say you playing pigeon chess, then its not an insult, its the truth.
Case in point. I asked you to answer the first question first, then I reminded you again to first answer the first question.

Yet you jump around with your pigeon chess. So anyway, don't know why I even entertained you this long. Like always I have said what I wanted. Other will backup your view if they think its not foolish.

Bud, I answered your question and you're off on a tangent about women and pigeon chess. I've been pretty consistent in my argument yet you're wasting your effort on insults and validating them.

Nah. Just circuits without built in shortcuts and a bit of gravel and perhaps really coarse tarmac where leaving the track has consequences

In general, circuits need to accommodate more than f1. I guess mexico not so much, but you lose out on any 2 wheel racing if the circuit is full of gravel

I think we'd have better racing and decision making on the first lap if this first-lap-first-corner incident forgiveness idea is dropped.
We often hear these are the best drivers in the world, so the FIA should get rid of that ready made excuse which is ripe for abuse.

Gravel traps.

Gravel traps instead of paved runoff and the drivers will suddenly be able to respect track limits, like they did for the better part of 50/60-years before they started paving runoffs.

The opposite. MotoGP prefers more gravel than F1.

When Spa recently made upgrades to the circuit to get motorcycle racing back, one of the areas of focus was adding/expanding gravel traps. A rider's worst nightmare is to slide across tarmac and come to a dead stop against a barrier. Simply put, gravel does a better job of slowing a downed rider while paved runoff just rockets them into the barriers.

The only nuance here is MotoGP doesn't like grass or gravel at the immediate track's edge; they like a bit of a paved buffer before gravel to avoid a rider dipping their rear tyre into it and then getting flung off their bike onto the racing line.
